Nagrampa on Freedom of Expression: Your voice matters

Former Yraga/Amudyong Editor-In-Chief, Frances Mae L. Nagrampa, expressed her thoughts during the Webinar of Yraga with the topic, “Journalism and Media in the Digital World: Protecting one’s right to Freedom of Expression" yesterday October 2, 2021.
According to Nagrampa during her talk, “Mahalaga na ipahayag natin ang sarili natin. Mahalaga na i-assert natin ang ating Freedom of Expression. Bakit? Para makalayo din tayo sa pagkaka-oppress sa’tin. Kung hindi natin ipapahayag ang mga sarili natin, patuloy tayong maghihikahos o magdudusa sa oppression.”
Cases related to attacks to freedom of expression including the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020, ABS-CBN Shutdown, Red-tagging of community pantry, and the Arrest of Rappler CEO, Maria Ressa, for Cyberlibel were also addressed in her discussion.
She also enumerated some responsible ways to practice freedom of expression on digital platforms, “Merong mga bagay na hindi naman natin kailangan sabihin sa social media such as our personal information. Also, it’s better to keep some opinions or views to ourselves so as for us to not contribute to the confusion.
“Sa sobrang dami na ng information sa social media, hindi na natin kailangang magcontribute pa. So, there are things that are better not said,” she added.
“It doesn’t matter if it’s a small or big message. As long as you’re going to speak out, make use of that Freedom of Expression because it is a constitutional guarantee. Even though we are being suppressed, even the smallest actions do matter. Your voice matters” Nagrampa concluded.
