YoungJu Jo, Ph.D.

I am a systems and computational neurobiologist, an optical and genetic engineer, and a physicist by training. I develop and apply computational, optical, genetic, and physiological approaches to measure and perturb neural dynamics in behaving animals, aiming to understand and control neural computations through the lens of data-constrained dynamical systems models. Currently, I am a bioengineering postdoc at Stanford University.

I completed my Ph.D. in Applied Physics at Stanford in 2024, studying experimental and computational systems neuroscience with Profs. Karl Deisseroth and David Sussillo. I also earned my M.S. in Biology from Stanford in 2020. 

Previously, I received my B.S. in Physics and Mathematics from KAIST in 2018, where I worked on biotechnology development with Profs. YongKeun Park and Won Do Heo. My research on AI-powered holographic microscopy was recognized by the 2022 Agarwal Award (life science paper of the year from KAIST) and commercialized by Tomocube.
