On May 9, 2022, Young Thug was arrested in a massive gang indictment alongside multiple other affiliates of his record label, Young Stoner Life, with one of them notably being fellow American rapper Gunna, who turned himself in two days later, and also Yak Gotti, who also appears on the album.[3] The 28 defendants were later charged with 56 counts related to gang activity and racketeering. At the time of the release of the album, he was still incarcerated and has been denied bond several times. Thug has since pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.[4] His trial is expected to start in July 2023.[5] In reference to the situation, the album cover depicts Thug in a courtroom surrounded by co-defendants.[6] The record was announced on the rapper's social media on June 22, 2023.[7] American record producer Metro Boomin, who also serves as the executive producer of the album, later shared the announcement on his social media in support of the rapper.[8] He had previously posted a QR code leading to a countdown on his website with the album title and tagged Thug on June 16.[9] The clock was also shared by fellow rappers and producers Drake, Chance the Rapper, Gunna, Don Toliver, Quavo, Doe Boy, Lil Durk, 21 Savage, G Herbo, Ty Dolla Sign, Chase B, London on da Track, Southside and Wheezy.[10]

Over the past week, we saw two incredibly hyped albums come out amid a lot of drama and speculation. a Gift & a Curse by Gunna came out on June 16, and just a week later, Young Thug dropped BUSINESS IS BUSINESS. Considering both artists' history together, their incarceration for the YSL RICO case, and Wunna's subsequent plea deal, these two release being so close to one another come with a lot of baggage. Of course, many enjoy both to great extent, but social media sites like Twitter have been warring over which one is the superior body of work.

Joe Budden said Gunna has a better new album than Young Thug on a recent episode of The Joe Budden Podcast. In turn, Joe's comment sparked a debate with his other cohosts about which rapper had the most hard-hitting project.

On Sunday (June 25), Joe Budden, Parks Vallely, Ice, Ish and Queenzflip, the hosts of The Joe Budden Podcast, conversed about Gunna's album, A Gift & A Curse, and Young Thugs' LP Business Is Business. After QueenzFlip asked the other hosts if Young Thug or Gunna had the best album at the 19:25-mark of the video below, Budden said that Gunna's was better. This led to the podcasts' cohosts debating over which album slapped the most.

Joe Budden and the podcasts' cohosts also discussed the comparisons between Gunna and Young Thug's new albums. Despite the divided views from the cohosts, Joe Budden stated that people might be comparing the two because Young Thug's album rollout dropped in the same time frame as Gunna's album.

1) While I spend most of my time researching and writing about "classic" album cover artists and their art, I do, on occasion, run across a new work of art that inspires me to learn more about the folks behind it and share that with you. This is the case today as I ask you to click on over to Troy Smith's article on the Cleveland.com site about Tyler Nikkel's fascinating cover image for Machine Gun Kelley's upcoming new album titled General Admission (due out October 16th). Nikkel, who is a graphic designer based in Kansas, had been sending the rapper samples of his "fan art" via social media that ultimately convinced MGK to commission him for this new work. The two collaborated on a design that has a bit of a classic Roger Dean-style feel to it and including a lot of specific and hidden references to the architecture and culture of the city of Cleveland as well as to each of the songs on the new record. Nice job, I think - _story_behind_machine_gun_k.html

2) Writer James Stafford provides us with two new "Cover Stories" - over on the Loudwire.com site, you'll learn more about Dean Kerr's work (and re-work) on the cover shot for Pantera's 1994 record Far Beyond Driven featuring an image that would prove popular both to the band's fans and those who might spend a lot of time in the Hand Tools aisle at the local Home Depot. Interestingly enough, the original art Kerr produced made him a pain in the ass at the record label, while his fix simply gave them a headache - -stories-pantera-far-beyond-driven/ Over on the Diffuser.fm site, Stafford gives us the details behind album cover and poster designer Frank Kozik's illustration for the mega-selling 1998 record Americana by The Offspring. Click on over for a most-enlightening answer - -stories-the-offspring-americana/ Just don't hate me when you're done.

3) The headline reads "Young Thug Wants YOU To Design His Slime Season Mixtape Cover", and while there's no official release date announced yet, nor is there much incentive provided in the accompanying article's details (posted by Trevor Smith on the Hot New Hip Hop site), once can only assume that all of your hard work will be rewarded with a lifetime work contract and a huge percentage of the profits made via your design (isn't that always the case, designers?) - -thug-wants-you-to-design-his-slime-season-mixtape-cover-news.17619.html e24fc04721
