This is a go to in my devotion, but I had to change the word power to praise. Never sat right in my spirit that "Thou art worthy to receive glory, honor and power." God is all powerful and can't receive power from me. But I can and do offer Him my glory, honor and praise!

There are both old and new songs with "greater depth" if you mean theological content, but this song is a wonderful response of worship to our Creator God. We need both kinds of songs for complete worship.

Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise,

the city of our God, the holy place,

the joy of the whole Earth.

Great is the Lord in whom we have the victory,

he aids us against the enemy,

we bow down on our knees.

I have mixed feelings about the woman described in Proverbs 31. On the one hand, I deeply admire the wife of noble character. She is everything I aspire to be. She is industrious, trustworthy, good, kind, she takes care of her household and family, she gives to the poor. She is wise and strong. She is the perfect woman and I long to be just like her.

For those who are in Christ, we are not afraid of hurting God (because we cannot hurt God), be we deeply fear grieving him when we come into his presence because he is so utterly holy and we are not. This is the kind of fear that is praiseworthy.

So that long list of all the wonderful things the Proverbs 31 woman does and all the wonderful characteristics she has do not make her worthy. Her praiseworthiness and her identity as a woman are not tied to her good works.

If you are in Christ, your identity and your worth are defined by the God who created you, the Son who died for you, and the Spirit who indwells you. Because Christ lived the perfect life we could not live and died the death we deserved, we are given his righteousness which makes us perfectly worthy before our Creator. This is such good news for those of us who cannot live up to the Proverbs 31 standard.

So I now approach Proverbs 31 as a prayer. Lord, continue the good work in me that you have started (Phil. 1:6). Make me industrious, trustworthy, good, and kind. Help me take care of my household and family. Help me have compassion for the poor. Make me wise and strong.

And then I rest, knowing God will complete his work on the day of Christ Jesus. And I rest knowing that I am lovely because he loves me, I am worthy because Christ was worthy and my identity is safely hidden in Him.

Chorus 2

What a wonderful Name it is

What a wonderful Name it is

The Name of Jesus Christ my King

What a wonderful Name it is

Nothing compares to this

What a wonderful Name it is

The Name of Jesus

What a wonderful Name it is

The Name of Jesus

To be fearfully and wonderfully made is not just a feel-good Bible verse, there is real power and authority that comes with being fearfully and wonderfully made. The same Spirit of God that raised Jesus from the dead lives in you.

For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.

These first three verses have some unusual words in them: exalt, extol, worthy, and fathom. To exalt means to lift someone up high. Extol is another word for praise, and worthy means that something is well deserved.

And this, my friends, is exactly why self-care and self-love is so important. Self-care is the act that calls for and pulls forth the fruits of self-love. Self-care communicates to our bodies, minds, hearts, and others that we are worthy of being taken care of and nurtured. As we are part of the Body of Christ, so we are to treat ourselves like the Church, the Bridegroom. Through self-love, we are more able to identify the wonderful works that God has done in our own lives and the beauty we hold within ourselves. God has a burning desire for us to look upon ourselves with the same love He has for us. When we are able to grow in the virtue of nurture, we are able to exemplify this within our own relationships with others. Self-love gives us the radical gift of acceptance of where our mind, body, and spirit are at, and gives it the opportunity to grow and flourish both internally and externally.

Ruth did what she could (even straining her capacity at times) to care for those God had given to her, even when the risks were great, even when her strength ran low, even when others would have understood if she stopped, because Ruth was a worthy woman.

Yes, he admired how she cared for her mother-in-law, but he also saw how she had hidden herself in God, taking refuge under his wide and strong wings. She was not only a faithful woman, but a faith-filled woman. Do not be mistaken: worthy women are not proudly independent women. They know themselves to be needy, dependent, and vulnerable, and entrust themselves to the grace of God. They serve and sacrifice and risk with their eyes lifted above this earth to where their true hope lives.

When Boaz awoke and saw his future wife lying at his feet, he did not see the simple, fleeting beauty of a younger woman (though she was much younger); he saw the deeper, more complex, more durable beauty of a truly worthy wife.

It is reported that King Alexander the Great, hearing Anaxarchus the philosopher discoursing and maintaining this position: That there were worlds innumerable: fell a-weeping: and when his friends and familiars about him asked what he ailed. Have I not (quoth he) good cause to weep, that being as there are an infinite number of worlds, I am not yet the lord of one?

An other time also when he was in Spayne, reading the history of Alexanders actes, when he had red it, he was sorrowfull a good while after, and then burst out in weeping. His frends seeing that, marveled what should be the cause of his sorow. He aunswered them, Doe ye not thinke sayd he, that I have good cause to be heavie, when king Alexander being no older than my selfe is now, had in old time wonne so many nations and contries: and that I hitherunto have done nothing worthy of my selfe?

The greatest event in human history is when Almighty God stepped out of Heaven, put His feet upon this Earth, and saved us from our sins. Seven centuries before the first Christmas, the prophet Isaiah wrote about the coming Savior, and expressed how His name is wonderful.

2. What has revealed the love of God among us is that the Father has sent into the world His only-begotten Son, so that, being made man, He might by His redemption give new life to the entire human race and unify it.(2) Before offering Himself up as a spotless victim upon the altar, Christ prayed to His Father for all who believe in Him: "that they all may be one; even as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us, so that the world may believe that thou has sent me".(3) In His Church He instituted the wonderful sacrament of the Eucharist by which the unity of His Church is both signified and made a reality. He gave His followers a new commandment to love one another,(4) and promised the Spirit, their Advocate,(5) who, as Lord and life-giver, should remain with them forever.

After being lifted up on the cross and glorified, the Lord Jesus poured forth His Spirit as He had promised, and through the Spirit He has called and gathered together the people of the New Covenant, who are the Church, into a unity of faith, hope and charity, as the Apostle teaches us: "There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one Baptism".(6) For "all you who have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ ... for you are all one in Christ Jesus".(7) It is the Holy Spirit, dwelling in those who believe and pervading and ruling over the Church as a whole, who brings about that wonderful communion of the faithful. He brings them into intimate union with Christ, so that He is the principle of the Church's unity. The distribution of graces and offices is His work too,(8) enriching the Church of Jesus Christ with different functions "in order to equip the saints for the work of service, so as to build up the body of Christ".(9)

On the other hand, Catholics must gladly acknowledge and esteem the truly Christian endowments from our common heritage which are to be found among our separated brethren. It is right and salutary to recognize the riches of Christ and virtuous works in the lives of others who are bearing witness to Christ, sometimes even to the shedding of their blood. For God is always wonderful in His works and worthy of all praise.

7. There can be no ecumenism worthy of the name without a change of heart. For it is from renewal of the inner life of our minds,(28) from self-denial and an unstinted love that desires of unity take their rise and develop in a mature way. We should therefore pray to the Holy Spirit for the grace to be genuinely self-denying, humble, gentle in the service of others, and to have an attitude of brotherly generosity towards them. St. Paul says: "I, therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and meekness, with patience, forbearing one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the spirit in the bond of peace".(29) This exhortation is directed especially to those raised to sacred Orders precisely that the work of Christ may be continued. He came among us "not to be served but to serve".(30)

As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. 17dc91bb1f
