If you want lightweight, foldable headphones with up to 20 hours of listening per charge, choose YOTO Headphones; if you need active noise cancellation and a wired option, choose Altec Lansing Kid Safe Noise. For kids, the choice comes down to longer stated battery life and a travel-friendly over-ear design versus ANC, an 85 dB volume limit, and more connection options.
YOTO Headphones vs Altec Lansing Kid Safe Noise at a Glance
• Altec Lansing Kid Safe Noise: Active noise cancellation and Bluetooth or wired listening make it versatile; the trade-off is a shorter stated battery life than YOTO’s.
• YOTO is for families who want straightforward Bluetooth headphones with a long listed battery life for trips and everyday listening.
• Altec Lansing is for families who value noise cancellation, an explicit 85 dB volume limit, and the flexibility of a 3.5 mm connection.
• My quick read: YOTO is the simpler travel companion; Altec Lansing offers more ways to manage sound and connectivity.
YOTO Headphones are Bluetooth over-ear headphones with a volume-limiting function and an adjustable, foldable headband. The listed battery life is up to 20 hours per charge, and charging takes 2.5 hours. That combination points toward a child who listens during a long car ride, a flight, or a day with several stretches of audio, where not having to recharge after every outing is useful.
The lightweight, compact design and included cloth bag make them easier to pack than a rigid, non-folding headset would be. They can connect wirelessly to supported Bluetooth devices, including the Yoto Player (3rd Generation) and Yoto Mini. If a child already uses either player, that compatibility is a practical reason to keep the setup simple. The over-ear fit and adjustable headband are also useful when a headset needs to accommodate a growing child rather than a single fixed fit.
YOTO’s volume-limiting function is relevant for parents who want a listening level limit built into the headphones. The product information does not give a numeric limit, so I would not treat it as directly equivalent to Altec Lansing’s stated 85 dB limit. It also does not list noise control. These are headphones for listening to audio, not for actively reducing surrounding noise.
Who should skip them: Skip YOTO if active noise cancellation or a wired 3.5 mm connection is a must-have.

For a child who listens to stories, music, or other audio at home and on the move, the appeal is uncomplicated: Bluetooth, folding portability, and a longer listed battery life. The provided information describes a cloth bag, manual, and USB-C charging cable in the package. It does not list a protective hard case, so families who want more structured storage should consider that difference.
Altec Lansing Kid Safe Noise is designed for children ages 7 and up. Its defining feature is active noise cancellation, intended to reduce the impact of surrounding noise while a child listens. That may be useful in settings such as a busy household or an airport, where background sound can compete with audio. It is important to distinguish ANC from a volume limit: ANC is a noise-control feature, while the separate kid-safe setting is specified as an 85 dB limit.
This model supports Bluetooth listening and also has a 3.5 mm jack for a wired connection. That gives families an alternative when they do not want to use Bluetooth or when a compatible device is connected by cable. The product information also lists a 30-foot Bluetooth range. Its foldable design and included protective case suit packing in a backpack or luggage, while the adjustable headband and soft ear cushions are intended to support extended listening.
The listed battery-life information describes an average life of 10 days, rather than a number of listening hours per charge. That figure is not directly comparable with YOTO’s stated 20 hours of listening per charge, so I would avoid assuming they describe the same usage pattern. Altec Lansing also lists an IPX4 sweatproof rating, a feature that may matter for active use. Its specified age range starts at 7+, which is a meaningful distinction for families shopping for younger children.
Who should skip it: Skip Altec Lansing if you need a headset specified for children younger than 7, or if your priority is a clearly stated listening-hours-per-charge figure.
The strongest case for this model is the combination of ANC, an 85 dB volume limit, Bluetooth, and wired listening. Those features give it a broader set of listening options than YOTO. The trade-off is that its battery-life description is expressed differently, and its stated age range is narrower for younger kids.
• Best for the longer stated listening time per charge → YOTO Headphones. YOTO specifies up to 20 hours per charge. Altec Lansing lists an average battery life of 10 days, which is a different measure and should not be read as a direct hours-per-charge comparison.
• Best for active noise cancellation → Altec Lansing Kid Safe Noise. Its ANC is the clear choice if reducing the effect of surrounding sound is a priority.
• Best for an explicitly stated volume limit → Altec Lansing Kid Safe Noise. Its limit is specified as 85 dB. YOTO lists a volume-limiting function but does not provide a number in the available product details.
• Best for pairing with a Yoto Player or Yoto Mini → YOTO Headphones. Compatibility with the 3rd Generation Yoto Player and Yoto Mini is specifically listed.
• Best for wired listening as well as Bluetooth → Altec Lansing Kid Safe Noise. Its 3.5 mm jack adds a cable option; YOTO is described as wireless Bluetooth headphones.
• Best for younger children based on the stated age guidance → YOTO Headphones. YOTO’s product title gives an age range of 3–12, while Altec Lansing’s stated range is 7+.
• Best for a more protective included storage option → Altec Lansing Kid Safe Noise. It includes a protective case; YOTO includes a cloth bag.
• Best for a foldable headset with simple travel packing → Either, for different reasons. Both fold. YOTO is described as lightweight and compact; Altec Lansing includes a protective case and is described as fitting into backpacks or luggage.
Start with the child’s age and the device they will use. YOTO’s listed age range is 3–12, and it names compatibility with two Yoto audio players. Altec Lansing is specified for ages 7 and up. If the headphones are intended for a younger child, that difference alone may narrow the decision.
Next, consider the environment. ANC is Altec Lansing’s key distinction, but neither product’s information promises that it will eliminate every surrounding sound. YOTO has no listed noise-control feature, so it is the more straightforward listening option when sound reduction is not a requirement. For travel, both fold, but their included storage differs: YOTO comes with a cloth bag, while Altec Lansing includes a protective case.
Think about how the child will connect. Both support Bluetooth, but Altec Lansing adds a 3.5 mm wired option. YOTO’s advantage is its specifically named compatibility with the Yoto Player (3rd Generation) and Yoto Mini. If a child already relies on one of those devices, that can matter more than a general feature list.
Finally, read the battery claims carefully. YOTO states up to 20 hours of listening per charge and a 2.5-hour charging time. Altec Lansing states an average battery life of 10 days, without expressing that figure as listening hours per charge. Those descriptions do not provide a like-for-like comparison. If a shopper is weighing a Bluetooth headset gift for kids, it is worth matching the battery information to the child’s actual routine rather than assuming the larger-looking time figure means more continuous listening.
Neither product is described as in-ear earbuds for kids. Both are headphone designs, so shoppers specifically looking for small in-ear earbuds should consider whether that form factor is actually what they need. For most families choosing between these two, the more useful question is whether ANC and a cable connection matter more than YOTO’s longer stated listening time per charge and named Yoto-device compatibility.
I would choose YOTO Headphones for kids if I wanted a simple Bluetooth headset for travel, everyday audio, or a Yoto Player setup. Its up-to-20-hour listening figure, folding design, and stated compatibility make a clear, practical case.
I would choose Altec Lansing instead when ANC, a stated 85 dB limit, or wired listening is essential.
My overall pick is YOTO for the broader family routine, while recognizing that Altec Lansing is the more feature-rich choice for noise control.
YOTO lists an age range of 3–12 and names compatibility with the Yoto Player (3rd Generation) and Yoto Mini. Altec Lansing is specified for ages 7 and up and adds ANC plus a 3.5 mm wired connection. The better fit depends on age and which features matter most.
Do both headphones have a volume limit?
YOTO specifies up to 20 hours of listening per charge and a 2.5-hour charging time. Altec Lansing lists an average battery life of 10 days, but not as listening hours per charge. Since the figures use different descriptions, they cannot be compared directly.
Yes, if active noise cancellation is a priority. Altec Lansing lists ANC, while YOTO lists no noise-control feature. ANC is a meaningful distinction, but the product information does not say that it blocks all surrounding sound.
