宮森敬子は、和紙や木炭、ガラスを用い、時間と記憶の層を探る作品を国内外で発表してきました。本展「Time Between Us」では、作家の代表作である《TIME》をはじめ、《No matter what, I am still a part of it》(それでも、私は世界の一部としてある)、そして極薄の和紙による新シリーズを中心に展示します。
《TIME》(2021–present) は、自家製の木炭で日々樹皮の拓本をとり、その一日一日を小さなガラス箱に封じる継続的なプロジェクトです。日々の時間を積み重ね、その一部を他者が所有することで、個人の記憶と他者の時間が静かに交差していきます。
宮森の祖母はハワイ生まれの日系二世であり、作家自身もアメリカと日本のあいだに家族を持ちながら制作を続けています。海を隔てた二つの国の歴史と現在という背景のもと、本展では1997年前後のドローイングやエッチング、そして新作ドローイングも展示されます。異なる時代に刻まれた線が同じ空間に並ぶことで、制作の時間そのものが層として立ち上がります。
世界では不安定な状況が続き、国と国の関係も揺れ動いています。本展はそうした現実から目を背けるのではなく、その影を含んだまま、なお私たちが世界の一部として在り続けることを静かに問いかけます。
「Between Us」とは距離であると同時に、つながりでもあります。本展は、その「あいだ」に立ち、自身と世界との関係をあらためて見つめる場となるでしょう。
Keiko Miyamori has exhibited internationally, working with washi paper, charcoal, and glass to explore layered time and memory. Time Between Us presents her signature project TIME, alongside No matter what, I am still a part of it, and a new series using ultra-thin layered washi paper.
TIME (2021–present) is an ongoing project in which Miyamori takes daily bark rubbings using her own handmade charcoal and seals each day inside a small glass box. As days accumulate and some are acquired by others, personal memory and shared time subtly intersect.
Miyamori’s grandmother was Nisei—a second-generation Japanese American born in Hawaii who later moved to Japan. The artist herself continues to create work while maintaining family ties between Japan and the United States. Against the historical and contemporary relationship between these two countries across the Pacific, the exhibition also includes drawings and etchings from around 1997—created before Miyamori moved to the United States—alongside new drawings. Lines from different periods are presented together, allowing time itself to emerge as layered presence.
In a world marked by uncertainty and shifting international relationships, this exhibition does not turn away from such realities. Instead, it quietly asks how we might continue to exist as part of the world—holding its shadows, yet choosing connection.
“Between Us” suggests both distance and relationship.
This exhibition offers a space to stand within that in-between, and to reconsider our place in the world.

Even in a world shaped by conflict,
