IMPORTANT PROPERTY INFORMATION
Property Owners: The property is maintained by the landowner Tom, 75, and his adult sons, James, 43, and occasionally Jonathan, 34, who lives in a nearby city. This property is a family farmstead that has been in the family for four generations since 1916.
The property is located smack-dab in the middle of farm country, so please accept the nuances of country living surrounded by modern day agriculture. If you have any questions or concerns, we are happy to provide information about current seasonal ag activity during your stay. It is often very peaceful during the day and nights are always very quiet.
Restrooms: While we currently have a porta-potty available, we kindly request that you remain mostly self-contained until we can establish the necessary infrastructure for bathrooms, showers, and a community kitchen.
Water: Our well water is not currently permitted for public drinking water. It is posted with a sign as non-potable. We are getting it figured out with the county and state to be able to offer filtered drinking water for guests. You might already travel with a water filter.
Electricity: We do not have RV electrical hookups yet. We can offer 110v electrical extension cord plug-in for short-term use and build projects. Vehicles must be completely or mostly powered by solar and batteries. We don't allow generators except in emergencies or extreme events.
Other services: Wifi, garbage service, electrical hookups (where available) can be available for additional fees.
Build and Repair Shop Area: We are planning a home-on-wheels build shop and repair shop, hopefully with a good mobile mechanic to assist with repairs. There is space outside the shop for build projects currently but it will take us awhile to get the full Machine Shed reorganized and ready for year-round shop work.
Concerning dogs/pets: Due to past events, we have made the very difficult decision to not allow dogs at this time. We desire to provide a comfortable place for guests, neighbors, and resident animals.
Livestock: There is currently not any livestock on the property but discussions about chickens, goats, sheep, or a cow are always on the table. There are several cats on the property, but the only other resident animals are wildlife at this time. Some smaller livestock options like chickens, rabbits, sheep, goats, smaller breed cows may be allowed during certain times for the health benefits to the soil. We will be very selective about this arrangement so it doesn't become a concern for other guests. The area will be limited to the area around the garden and pasture. Temporary fencing, structures, and equipment will have to be supplied by guest interested in raising animals here until we are able to construct fencing for livestock.
Wild Animals: There are very few dangerous animals on the Palouse. Mostly wandering through. Moose visit occasionally and prefer to be left alone. Cougars and wolves have been spotted in other areas of the Palouse though quite rare for our area. There are some racoons that live in the cattails of the pond, but they are rarely seen and pose no threat. There are no venomous snakes at the Oasis. Use caution when exploring the Palouse though, There are rattle snakes that live in the scablands. Please notify us if you see a porcupine on the farm.
Garden/Greenhouse: We have lots of opportunities in 2025 to take part in the garden and greenhouse projects. We are open to suggestions and discussion about how it should be structured. There ara be a variety of potential small farm opportunities that can be created for microgreens, mushrooms, herbs, vegetables, hemp, or other crops.
