Mathematics | Data Science | Artifical Intelligence
Hello there! My name is Yiorgos and I am a mathematician and data scientist.
I did my undergraduate studies in Greece (University of Patras), specialising in dynamical systems (dissertation: Stability of periodic orbits and collective motion of social animals - Erasmus+ scholarship) under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Tasos Bountis & Dr. Vasileios Basios. Then, I moved to Edinburgh, UK, to pursue MSc studies in Applied Mathematics in Herriot-Watt University (dissertation: Quantum Approximation Theory, supervised by Prof. Dr. Bryan Rynne), before moving to Belgium.
There, I was awarded my PhD from Hasselt Unversity, with Prof. Dr. Peter De Maesschalck and Prof. Dr. Renato Huzak as my mentors. My next stop was in the UK, where I gained significant experience as a data analyst in the industry and freelancing projects. I am currently based in the Athens, Greece, working as a software developer.
Here is a list of my work and my project portfolio.
I have been working on the qualitative theory of dynamical systems (mainly ordinary differential equations), specialising in geometric singular perturbation theory, multiple time-scales and, more recently, in symbolic dynamics. Overall, I am familiar with a variety of software tools, such as Wolfram Mathematica, Maple and Matlab, as well as programming languages like Python, R and SQL databases.
In the realm of Data and AI, I am quite interested in exploring the boundaries of computer vision and gradually familiarise myself with various traditional concepts of data engineering (such as data pipeline construction and noSQL DBs). Currently, I am working as a DevOps Eng and learning how to code in Golang!
Outside the scope of mathematics or data, I greatly enjoy music, learning chess and engaging in a few physical activities (cycling, basketball, hiking).
