Granular Mechanics and Renewable Energy Lab

Welcome to Granular Mechanics and Renewable Energy (GMRE) Lab

The resilience of infrastructure and the security of sustainable energy supply are challenged by the evolving climate change, the growing population, and depleted resources. The GMRE Lab at Texas Tech University strives to solve fundamental questions and practical challenges related to renewable energy recovery and infrastructure security.

Our research themes include: 1) static, transient, and rheological behavior of granular materials, 2) interaction between granular media and interstitial multiphase fluids, and 3) hydro-thermo-chemo-mechanical behavior of geomaterials and unconventional granular materials. With combined numerical, experimental, theoretical, and data-driven approaches, our work is mainly applied to bioenergy material handling and conversion, enhanced geothermal systems, and natural hazards assessment and forecasting.
