Gift Guide for Nerds
By JT
Christmas is just around the corner, and that means it’s time to go shopping for gifts for friends and family! Personally, I always find this to be the most difficult part of the holidays, as I’m terrible at picking out presents for other people--but I’m even worse at deciding what I want! Now, this guide isn’t about myself, not specifically. It’s about what I am: a nerd! And I’ve found that a majority of the gifts I receive revolve around the franchise I geek about (in this case Star Wars), but how does someone reach that point of deciding the perfect gift for a nerd?
The main thing to understand is what kind of nerd you’re dealing with. This might be the easiest part honestly, because it’s generally easy to tell what a nerd geeks about the most--chances are they’re very audible about it, I certainly am! There are a wide amount of franchises for people to be fans of, and some nerds are megafans of multiple franchises and genres. Regardless, I think this is definitely the easiest and possibly most important step.
Now as for what to actually get them, that’s a whole other question entirely. As with any person, you’d have to figure out what exactly they would enjoy out of a gift. This can range from books, games, or even something simple like a T-shirt or mug. There isn’t really a correct way to determine this other than knowing the personality you are getting a gift for.
These general guidelines may apply to anyone, really. Not just nerds! But in short, understand the nerd you’re getting a gift for, including what franchises and genres they are fans of and what they may enjoy the most based on their personality. I usually struggle with figuring out what gift to get for anyone, not just nerds, but it’s really quite easy once you set yourself to it!
