Restore the Levy - Renew Your Library

The library‘s funding comes almost entirely from property taxes. Due to a 2001 state law, the amount received by local entities (fire district, schools, libraries, etc.) can only increase by 1% per year - even if property values increase at a higher rate.  This limit, the levy lid, means that as total property valuation increases the levy rate actually decreases.  The end result is that funding has not kept pace with increasing costs at the library.

This ballot measure is considered a levy lid lift, requesting that the 1% limit be raised for one year after which the 1% lid would again be in effect.  

What does that mean to you? Using a home valued at $300,000, the levy would increase the amount by $29.25.
