Hi, I am Yashwant Singh Patel, currently working as a Kempe Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Computing Science, Umeå University, Sweden. I am also associated with the Computer Science and Engineering Department (CSED) at Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology, Punjab, India. 

I received my Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from IIT Patna India, under the supervision of Prof. Rajiv Misra, in 2021. During my Ph.D. I worked on designing the energy-efficient algorithms to address the on demand live VM migration and resource reservation issues in cloud datacenter networks. My research interests include resource allocation and consolidation problems  for geo-distributed cloud datacenters. My current work is related to Cloud-Edge Systems, Edge Intelligence, Serverless Computing, Energy-Efficient Computing, and Distributed Algorithms.

Previously, I received M.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering from KIIT University, Odisha, India, in 2014. During masters, my broad area of research was designing multi-objective job scheduling algorithms in Grid Computing environment using evolutionary algorithms.

Till now, I have published ten papers in reputed journals, two book chapters, one text book, and 22 papers in the proceedings of international conferences and workshops. I have worked as an NPTEL Teaching Assistant for Big Data Computing, Cloud Computing, Distributed Systems and Advanced Graph Theory Courses at IIT Kanpur.  I have also worked in a DST sponsored project undertaken by IIT Patna in course of PhD. The nature of duties in those projects were conducting research on Low-cost Energy Efficient Cloud for Cyber Physical Disaster Management Systems. I was also a recipient of Visvesvaraya Research fellowship.

Cloud Computing, Edge Computing, Federated Learning, Internet of Things (IoT), Network Function Virtualization, Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality (AR/VR), Deep Learning, and Smart Cities.

My current research focuses mainly on Intelligent Edge Computing for Cyber-Physical and Cloud Systems. I am looking forward to focusing on Cloud-IoT-Edge based technologies for societal applications. I am also working on the applications of Blockchain Technology, Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality (AR/VR), Deep Learning,  and Federated Learning to socially relevant issues. I am actively looking for sincere and motivated students (UG/PG) who strive to produce quality in quantitative research in Cloud Computing, Internet of Things (IoT), Edge Computing, Blockchain Technology, Deep Learning, and Augmented Reality & Virtual Reality (AR/VR).
