Amin Maalouf (1949) is Lebanese and comes from a strong Catholic and French influenced background. His father was a Melkite Greek Catholic and his mother a Maronite Catholic. Sanaa Benmessaoud holds a PhD in Translation Studies from the University of Montreal, in Canada. She is currently Assistant Professor at the University of Sharjah, in the UAE. Her areas of interest include the sociology of translation, issues of (gendered) identity construction and cultural representation in translation, and critical discourse analysis.
