Yapeng Wang
Associate Professor of Sociology
Renmin University of China
My research interests lie in social stratification, sociology of education, higher education, social demography, Asia and Asian America, China, and quantitative methods. My research is motivated by two overarching questions: (1) How do national and institutional contexts shape social stratification processes? (2) How do class, gender, and/or race/ethnicity intersect to shape educational inequality?
Using statistical and computational methods, I have been pursuing four interrelated research streams. The first research stream uses the unique context of China to extend stratification theories and provide policy implications to reduce social inequality. The second research stream provides new insights into understanding inequality in higher education in the U.S. by comparing Asian Americans with other racial/ethnic groups. The third stream focuses on inequality in graduate education and its consequences for labor market outcomes. The last stream examines the consequences of social inequality.
My recent research has been published in Educational Researcher, Social Science Research, Research in Social Stratification and Mobility, Research in Higher Education, and Chinese Sociological Review.
