Positions Description


The Zachry Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Texas A&M seeks to recruit 2 Ph.D. students and multiple master students to join Dr. Yang Zhou’s research group, starting from Spring/Fall 2023. Applicants for Ph.D. positions should have M.S/B.S. in Transportation Engineering/Computer Science/Control Theory/Electrical Engineering/Mechanics. Candidates with first-hand experience in connected automated vehicles or strong background in control theory and AI will be preferred. For Ph.D. students, a full research assistantship will be also provided by Dr. Yang Zhou’s startup funding. The new coming Ph.D. students are envisioned to conduct multi-disciplinary research related to traffic flow theory, connected automated vehicle control and test, and AI applications on intelligent transportation systems supervised by Dr. Yang Zhou. Dr. Yang Zhou’s laboratory has extremely good research platforms including connected automated vehicles, hard-ware/human in-the-loop simulators, and ample data that you can play with. About Dr. Yang Zhou

Dr. Yang Zhou will join Texas A&M as an assistant professor in transportation engineering this fall. He received his Ph.D. degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2019, and his M.S. degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2015. Dr. Yang Zhou is currently a research associate co-supported by the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and Industrial and Systems Engineering, University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is also the recipient of the 2020 best dissertation award of the Chinese Overseas Transportation Association and the 2019 Journal of Transportation Engineering best paper award. He is currently the leader of the CAV AI task group, in the TRB traffic flow theory committee.

 

Dr. Yang Zhou's research is multi-disciplinary involving traffic flow theory, control theory, and Artificial Intelligence (AI). His research mainly focused on advancing knowledge of mixed traffic flow theory with different levels of vehicular connectivity and automation, vehicle and transportation control methods, and AI applications on the intelligent transportation system. He has published more than 30 peer-reviewed journal papers such as TR-Part B, TR-Part C, T-ITS and CACAIE.
