Does it cause crashes or like some registry fixer causes windows cruption, etc. needing format etc.? I need to know before using it on my win xp pro pc and vista home laptop? I am scared of touching the registry and since I know there are alot of junk registry there I need to know if it is safe to do this. Thanks in advance for your input.

Sometime for one reason to another you will see something wrong with file association such as clicking on IE will open my folder, clicking microsoft word will open your desktop bin. This means something happened to the registry. So one way to fix it is to give the automatic fixing to advanced system care which will scan and repair the file association.

Specifically in the case of ASC I believe it has more to do with their aggressive registry cleaner and some of the somewhat misleading advertising tactics they often employ in order to get installed on users' systems, including ads embedded in software download pages that make it appear as though the ad (which is a link to download/install ASC) appears to be the actual download button/link for a completely unrelated piece of software hosted on the page which is the software the user actually intended to download/install (for example, trying to download a CD burning tool from Download.com and clicking what you think is the download link/button for the software's installer but you end up with ASC because the ad tricked you due to its appearance and placement on the page). Regarding the registry cleaner, I've personally seen test results where a completely fresh installation of Windows was scanned and yet ASC still reported tons of so-called 'issues' and 'errors' to be fixed/corrected/removed even though theoretically there should be no such issues/errors on a fresh install prior to loading anything else onto the system. Besides that, there is the fact that removing obsolete registry entries doesn't actually do anything to measurably improve system performance and can often do more harm than good, especially if an entry thought to be orphaned is removed and it turns out it actually belonged to a piece of software or component which is actually still in-use/still installed. In extreme cases if a critical registry key/value is modified or removed it can render the system unbootable. Not only that, but the days of leftover registry values leading to constant error pop-ups and mysterious prompts on system startup are pretty much done and have been since Windows Vista (and really even the later days of XP prior to that) since most software vendors who received complaints about issues from customers updated their softwares' uninstallers to more carefully delete the appropriate registry values/data and unregister DLLs and other files correctly (not to mention the much improved iterations of System Restore now shipped with every Windows version which allows for more comprehensive rollback of the registry to a state prior to the software being installed).

Although the details of implementation of these statewide lists were left to the states, Congress required the EAC to issue voluntary guidance to assist the States with interpreting and implementing the statewide-centralized voter registration database provision of HAVA.

It is EPIC's position that compliance with Section 303(a) of HAVA should include transparency, privacy, and security for voter registration information, while at the same time meeting the challenge of real-time authentication of voters during an election.

Privacy is an important component of a democratic election system.1 In order to exercise their right to vote most states require voters to make information about themselves available in the public domain. There are approximately 215 million eligible voters in the United States with only 144 million of them registered to vote.2 It is common knowledge that voter registration rolls are used to select jury pools for local, state, and federal judicial proceedings. However, most voters do not know that in many states voter registration data is considered public information that is available to third parties for non-voting related purposes. In a limited number of states and under certain circumstances voters are provided the option of limiting the amount of information provided to a third party. Is it time to ask ourselves if the lack of opt-out privileges is the best policy for voter registration?

Some state practices regarding voter registration records limit the type of voter information shared with third parties. For example the full date of birth, place of birth, mothers maiden name, previous address, and whether a person routinely votes absentee may be withheld.

A few states in an attempt to comply with HAVA are hiring private companies to build the state's centralized voter registration database.5 The use of private contractors raises concerns about the other possible uses of the personal information provided by the state. Also the move to create statewide voter registration databases may further erode the privacy of voters. be457b7860
