This section reproduces the lessons available on the PSR Tutorial web site as of September 2021. Fortunately, the basic operation of the Yamaha arranger keyboards remains based on the system introduced with the PSR-2000 and the Tyros. Whether you own an older model or the most recent PSR-S975 or Tyros5, you will benefit from the lessons provided in this collection. There are six sub-sections under Lessons:

Now that you have your keyboard, you will want songs! This section includes not only thousands of songs that you can play on your keyboard, but also information about the most popular songs and where you may find the sheet music for songs. There are five major components to the Songs section.

The Styles section has, of course, style files. But it also includes other files useful on your keyboard: music finder databases (MFDs), multi pads, registrations, and voice files. Below is a brief description of the five components of the Styles section.

There are many programs available that help Yamaha keyboard owners manage the files (midi files, style files, registration files, etc) used with their keyboard. There are several sub-section included here based on the author of the utility or utilities. Some of these utilities are on included in this collection and can be found in the Files-Utillties folder. For all utilities, links to the author's web site are provided so users can get the latest version of the utility and any additional documentation needed.

The Lessons and informational material are accessed on your computer via these web pages. Many of the pages link to or reference files that are included in this Lessons 2017 collection. All of the included files are found in folders that begin with "Files-". Some of the "files" are meant for use on your computer, but many of them are meant for use on your Yamaha keyboard and can, in fact, be directly loaded into your keyboard using a USB drive. The available File folders are described below:

If you downloaded this collection to your computer, everything is already in a "Lessons2017" folder. This will all be backed up just as are other files on your computer. (You do have a way of backing up your data, don't you?) You can, of course, also copy everything in the Lessons2017 folder to a USB drive. However, for use on your Yamaha keyboard, only some of the files included here are meant to be used on your keyboard. All of the Files-Styles, Files-MidiSongs, and Files-MultiPad folders contain files for use on your Yamaha.

MusicFinder and Registration files are keyboard specific so only some of the files found in those folders will work on your keyboard. Use the lessons to learn about these files and the utilities, if needed, to convert them for use on your keyboard.

There is a LOT of information available in this collection. It took years to compile and it will take any new user quite some time to absorb. No need to learn everything at once. Take things one step at a time. The songs can be used immediately to see what other owners have been able to do with their Yamaha keyboards. If you do not read music, but play by ear, the midi songs may help you learn new songs. If you can read notes, the fake books will give you plenty of songs to try out. As you become comfortable with loading styles, you will enjoy exploring the wide array of additional styles included in this collection. Once you tire of the styles you have, there are always thousands more available in the various style collections. If you come across a problem that is not covered in the lessons, use the PSR Tutorial forum and post your question there. It is very likely someone else has encountered the same problem and found a solution for you. If you are into social networking, the forum is also a good place to meet other Yamaha owners and keep up with what is going on in the Yamaha keyboard world. And, of course, the main PSR Tutorial web site is constantly adding new material, new songs, new styles, new lessons. Be sure to check in there periodically to see if there is something new you would be interested in. But most of all, just have fun learning and making music with your keyboard!

If you want to learn to play keyboards and piano, you've come to the right place. Many beginners, players of other musical instruments and even folks who have been playing the keyboards for some time are making use of online keyboard lessons and courses.

When I started playing keyboards, I must admit that I had to figure out a lot of stuff on my own. With a guide like some of the good courses available today where you learn proper techniques, I certainly would have been better off. Nothing beats having someone teach you along the way and have you understand exactly what you're doing.

You can find (what I consider to be) an excellent course where you learn to play keyboard and piano, right here. It's my number one recommendation on this web site (www.yamaha-keyboard-guide.com) and surpasses my previous recommendation by far. I wish I'd come across it earlier.

What I particularly like about this course Learn Piano and Keyboard (Piano For All) is its uniqueness. It's not like those other courses that give students a false hope. Of the many courses I've seen online on how to play keyboard, I'm sure that this is one of the best ones. You can check it out yourself and arrive at your own conclusions. It's just my personal feelings.

The course, Learn Piano and Keyboards (Piano For All) consists of 10 ebooks, 500 audio piano lessons and 200 video piano lessons! I like its step by step approach. There's so much in there, and it's worth the price. I think I'll stop here and let you check it out yourself at their website. They certainly do a better job than me at explaining what the various lessons entail. Check it out yourself, here.

It is my hope that the above recommendation helps you learn to play keyboard and become an accomplished keyboard player through the guide that it provides.

Rocket Piano is another high quality course on learning to play piano and keyboards. I bought the downloadable version for $39.95 and was totally impressed. It's worth much more than they're charging.

There are many sites on the internet where you can download files that can be used with the PSR or Tyros keyboards. Our Links section will point you to some of the best. In the downloads provided at this site, we initially focused on files specifically designed for or tuned-to the PSR-2000 since that was the newest Yamaha arranger keyboard. Over the years, Yamaha introduced new arranger keyboards and the PSR Tutorial expanded as it tried to keep up. Today you will find files here that you can use on any of the mid-range Yamaha arranger keyboards (from the PSR-730 up through the latest PSR-S975). You will also find files for the top-level arranger Yamaha arranger keyboards from the PSR-8000 up to the latest Tyros5 and Genos models.

This section has 21 pages reflecting the many Yamaha arranger keyboard models starting with the PSR-730 introduced in 1997 and extending to the current top models, the Genos, introduced in 2017, and the PSR-S975 introduced in 2018. The primary focus is, of course, on styles, both the original styles that came with that model as well as other style sets that have been specifically "tuned" for use on that model.

18 Pages here reflect the individual performers who contributed their gig disks. Many players prefer styles named after a suitable song. That is the essence of the "Gig Disks" put together initially by Gary Diamond. Over the years, many other performers have contributed to this section. Just load the "song" you want and the keyboard is instantly set up to sound great for that song. Registrations are also used to configure a keyboard to play particular songs so this section may also contain registration sets used to support performance.

19 pages of various style collections are found here. Some owners spend a lot of time collecting styles from the internet and saving the best that they find. You will find several such style collections in this section. Some players not only collect styles, but they do a lot of "tweaking" to rework styles to their own liking or keyboard. Style sets from several style "converters" are also available here. Finally, Onacimus has painstakingly converted many of the original Yamaha style sets for use on later (or earlier) keyboards. His conversions are all here as well.

You do not have to limit yourself to only those styles created by Yamaha. Styles from other arranger keyboards, although not directly usable on a Yamaha keyboard, can be converted for use on PSR keyboards. Separate pages for keyboards from Technics, Roland, Ketron, and Korg offer hundreds of styles converted and re-tuned for use on Yamaha keyboards.

There are literally tens of thousands of styles available at the PSR Tutorial. They are provided in small sets of styles compressed into a single zip file. To get the styles on your keyboard, you first download the zip file, then unzip it to get to the underlying style files. These style files are then copied from your computer to a USB drive or a floppy disk for use on your Yamaha keyboard. Note that it is also possible to simply order one or more of the PSR Tutorial style collections on a USB drive and you get thousands of styles sent to you on that drive, unzipped and ready to use on your keyboard. e24fc04721
