If you want comfortable, wired headphones for big ears while practicing an instrument, choose Yamaha HPH-150WH; if you need fast wireless headphones for metal detecting, choose XP METAL DETECTORS WSAII Fastest.
The Yamaha is built around straightforward listening and a single cable; the XP is built for compatible detectors, quick wireless transmission, and rainproof field use.
Yamaha HPH-150WH vs XP METAL DETECTORS WSAII Fastest at a Glance
• Yamaha HPH-150WH strength: open, neutral sound intended for music and electric-instrument practice. Trade-off: it is wired and has no noise control.
• XP METAL DETECTORS WSAII Fastest strength: wireless use with compatible DEUS II remote controls and WS6 Master, plus a transmission protocol described as ten times faster than low-latency Bluetooth. Trade-off: compatibility is specifically tied to those detector systems.
• Yamaha HPH-150WH strength: a finely adjustable headband, 90-degree rotating joints, and a single 2 m cable. Trade-off: its on-ear fit may not suit someone looking for large, ear-enclosing cups.
• XP METAL DETECTORS WSAII Fastest strength: foldable, compact construction, rainproof design, and a stated 27-hour battery life. Trade-off: it still rests on the ears rather than being described as an over-ear model.
• Choose Yamaha for wired music listening and instrument practice; choose XP for compatible metal detecting and cable-free movement.
The Yamaha HPH-150WH is a wired, open on-ear headphone designed around natural-sounding playback. Its 20 Hz–20 kHz frequency range and 48-ohm impedance are provided alongside the description of a neutral sound profile. The intended use is clear: listening to music or hearing an electric instrument while practicing, without making wireless detector features the focus.
That makes it a sensible fit for someone who wants to connect directly to a digital instrument. The 3.5 mm stereo plug and included 6.3 mm adapter give the cable more than one connection option, while the 2 m single-cable arrangement keeps the setup uncomplicated. A single cable can be easier to manage around a keyboard than two separate leads, though it does mean the listener remains physically connected to the instrument or other source.
How We Research
We compare products from their published specs and features; the verdicts below are our independent editorial opinions.

Yamaha lists the headphones at 163 g and describes a finely adjustable headband and 90-degree rotating joints. Those details suggest a compact design that can be adjusted and repositioned, but they do not establish that the earcups will cover big ears. The product is specifically identified as on-ear, which is an important fit distinction for buyers searching for comfortable headband headphones for big ears. Skip it if you need wireless listening, rainproof construction, or a design that is explicitly described as over-ear.
The headset is described as foldable, compact, lightweight, and fully rainproof. At 70 g, it is the lighter of these two products on the listed specifications. For a detector user moving around outdoors, wireless operation removes a headphone cable from the setup, while foldability and compact construction make the headset easier to stow between outings. The product also provides volume control and a four-band equalizer, adjustable through the detector’s remote or WS6 Master, or by using the headset’s plus and minus keys.
XP lists a 27-hour battery life and includes a charge cord. It also states that the headphones come with a five-year manufacturer warranty. Those are practical points for someone considering repeated field sessions, but they do not remove the need to use a compatible detector system or charge the headset. The WSAII is also on-ear, so its lightweight build should not be confused with a guaranteed fit for larger ears. Skip it if your main use is wired keyboard practice or you do not use the compatible XP detector equipment.
• Best for digital piano or electric-instrument practice → Yamaha HPH-150WH. It is a wired headphone with a neutral sound profile and includes a 6.3 mm adapter as well as a 3.5 mm plug.
• Best for compatible detector use without a headphone cable → XP METAL DETECTORS WSAII Fastest. Its wireless compatibility is specified for the DEUS II remote control and WS6 Master.
• Best for a simple wired connection → Yamaha HPH-150WH. The 2 m single cable avoids depending on a battery or wireless link.
• Best for outdoor metal detecting in wet conditions → XP METAL DETECTORS WSAII Fastest. The product is described as fully rainproof; the Yamaha sheet does not give a rainproof claim.
• Best for adjusting sound through an equalizer → XP METAL DETECTORS WSAII Fastest. Its four-band equalizer can be adjusted from the compatible remote or headset keys.
• Best for a lightweight listed build → XP METAL DETECTORS WSAII Fastest. Its stated weight is 70 g, compared with 163 g for the Yamaha.
• Best for buyers seeking neutral instrument playback → Yamaha HPH-150WH. Its open design and neutral sound description suit a different listening goal than the XP’s detector-focused features.
• Best for someone searching for the best headband headphones for big ears → neither is an assured fit from these specifications. Both are described as on-ear, and neither sheet provides ear-cup dimensions or a big-ear fit guarantee.
My Verdict
For metal detecting with a DEUS II remote or WS6 Master, I would choose the XP instead: wireless operation, rainproof construction, and the stated 27-hour battery life are more relevant in the field.
For big ears, I would be cautious with either one: both are on-ear designs, and the available fit details do not confirm that either will fully accommodate larger ears.
Start with the equipment you plan to connect. The Yamaha uses a 3.5 mm stereo plug and comes with a 6.3 mm adapter, so it fits a wired listening setup when the source has a compatible connection. The XP is wireless and is specified for use with the DEUS II remote control or WS6 Master. These are not interchangeable connection styles, and choosing the wrong one could make the headphones unsuitable for your intended setup.
Next, consider where you will listen. For practicing at a digital piano or another electric instrument, a direct cable and neutral sound are straightforward advantages. The cable is 2 m long, so it provides some room to sit at the instrument while staying connected, but it also remains part of the listening setup. If you are walking around with a compatible detector, the XP’s wireless design avoids that cable, and its fully rainproof construction is a feature the Yamaha sheet does not claim.
Fit deserves its own check, particularly if you are specifically shopping for transparency mode neckband headphones for big ears. Neither product is described as a neckband, and neither offers transparency mode in the supplied specifications. Both are on-ear headphones. Yamaha gives adjustment and rotating-joint details; XP emphasizes lightweight, compact, foldable construction. Those facts help distinguish their designs, but they cannot answer how either model will sit on an individual’s ears.
Finally, think about ongoing use. The Yamaha has no battery requirement in its listed wired configuration, while the XP states a 27-hour battery life and includes a charge cord. The XP also lists a five-year manufacturer warranty. Those details may matter if the headphones are part of regular detecting outings, but they do not replace checking that your detector is one of the compatible models.
Both are described as on-ear headphones, and neither product sheet gives ear-cup measurements or a specific fit claim for big ears. The Yamaha has an adjustable headband and rotating joints; the XP is described as lightweight and compact. Those design details are useful, but they cannot guarantee a comfortable fit for every listener.
The XP WSAII Fastest is the purpose-built option here. It is specified for compatibility with the DEUS II remote control or WS6 Master and uses a wireless protocol described as ten times faster than low-latency Bluetooth. The Yamaha is a wired music and instrument-listening headphone, not a listed wireless detector headset.
No wireless connection is listed for the Yamaha. It has a single 2 m cable with a 3.5 mm stereo plug, and a 6.3 mm adapter is included. That makes it suitable for compatible wired sources, but not for cable-free movement.
It gives the listener a way to adjust sound using the compatible detector remote or WS6 Master, or the plus and minus keys on the headphones. The product information does not specify particular equalizer settings or describe a transparency mode.
