Purpose of The 73rd Yamada Conference in 2022

Electronics, which is based on the charge degree of freedom of the electron, was a key technology in the 20th century, whereas spintronics, which is based on the charge and spin degrees of freedom of the electron, became a key technology in the late 20th century. For example, in 1988, Dr. Fert and Dr. Greunberg discovered giant magnetoresistance (GMR), for which they received the Nobel Prize in 2007. So far, various magnetoresistance devices, spin field effect transistors (FET), etc. have been reported. However, most spintronics devices are composed of inorganic materials. In order to overcome “Moore's Limitation”, we must use nano-sized molecule-based magnets instead of the conventional bulk magnets.

More recently, researchers have been interested in molecular spintronics based on coordination compounds because coordination molecules have several advantages over inorganic materials, such as lightness, transparency, tunability, variety, molecular designs, etc. Therefore, in this conference, we will focus on the frontiers and perspectives of molecular spintronics based on coordination compounds. This conference will focus on molecule-based magnets and materials including single-molecule magnets (SMMs), spin crossover compounds (SCO), optical magnetic complexes, conducting magnetic complexes, organic radical metal complexes, spin qubits, spin valve, Kondo resonance, giant magnetoresistance (GMR), tunneling magnetoresistance (TMR), spin-dependent optical phenomena, nano-particles, spinterfaces, etc. Our final targets are directed toward Quantum Computer and Quantum Memory Device based on coordination compounds.

We hope that many scientists will attend the conference, present their most recent ground-breaking works, and discuss about these topics.

Purpose of Institute for Materials Research International Symposium

Molecule-based magnets have been attracting much attention from the viewpoint of their designability, tunability, lightness, transparency, cheap element, etc., compared with those of the conventional magnets. Molecule-based magnets have zero-, one-, two-, and three-dimensional structures, and the interesting and promising properties and functionalities, such as SMMs, SCMs, SCOs, PBs, etc., depend on the structures. In this symposium, we will discuss the frontier and perspectives of the molecule-based magnets.
