2019-20 Classes

This year CAPE will be offering some specialized classes. See below for the classes that we will be offering this school year.

JA World Yakima Virtual Tour

This year we are partnering with JA World in Terrace Heights to offer two finance classes for our students. Both classes will culminate in a hands-on 4-1/2 hour event at JA World in Terrace Heights where they get to run businesses, create budgets and put into practice the things that they learn throughout their 12 weeks of classes.

JA Finance Park

Grades 7-12

JA Finance Park helps students build a foundation upon which they can make intelligent lifelong financial decisions, including those related to income, expenses, savings, and credit. The JA Finance Park program is composed of 13 required teacher-taught, in-class lessons. It culminates in a hands-on budgeting simulation that is implemented at a JA Finance Park facility (Terrace Heights).

Cost is $19 per student to cover materials. Please be sure to bring payment on the first day of class. Classes will be every Monday, 8:30am to 10am, starting September 9th through December 2nd. Location is TO BE ANNOUNCED SOON.

JA BizTown

Grades 4-6

Imagine a city where young consumers rush to the bank to deposit their paychecks, sales managers create merchandise displays, and reporters interview local business leaders to get the most up-to-date stories. Across the way, the restaurant prepares for the lunch hour and the Mayor meets with business CEO's to get an understanding of current economic trends in their city.

JA BizTown is an indoor center that is a mini city with up to 21 public and private businesses. Businesses within the center are sponsored by real local businesses, and display the authentic logo and the actual marketplace appearance of the sponsoring business, bringing the town to life for the students. Before visiting JA BizTown, students complete classroom curriculum where they learn basic economic principles such as free enterprise and business, how to make choices as a consumer, and how to manage their personal bank account. They also participate in job interviews and learn about their new workplace and the job they will perform. Jobs range from retail sales professionals, accountants, business managers, medical professionals to TV and newspaper reporters. There is even a Mayor in City Hall!

Elementary Physical Education

Grades K-4

Yes, you read that right! We are, once again, offering a free PE class to all CAPE homeschoolers in the elementary grades (K-4). Our PE class will coincide with the Monday morning JA World finance classes (see above) and be held at the same location. We're planning to have lots of fun, get lots of exercise and learn a little about our bodies and ways to keep ourselves in good health/shape. There is no cost for this class and it is open to all CAPE students grades K-4. Not a CAPE member but want to sign up for this class? Be sure to sign up for CAPE to take advantage of this and the many other CAPE offerings,
