I've seen this issue in other posts and web, but with no resolution. Scenario: I have R6700v3 router with firmware V1.0.4.122_10.0.95. I pay for 750mbps and only get 250mbps download max with this router. I tried reinstalling firmware followed by factory reset. Tried removing power to everything and powering everything back up (with time delays) in proper order from modem, router, to computer. Still no luck. I know the IP modem (optical fiber - Nokia G-010G-A) is good because I have another older router (Asus RT-N66R) that atually gets 750mbps. Also tried disabling QoS (disabled by default), turn off Access Controls (disabled by default), turn off Traffic Meter (disabled by default). I am at a loss. Very frustrated with this router now. Loved it, now hate it. Not noticable in my last house because IP speeds were 200mpbs. New house is 750mbps and now I see the limitation. Fully hardwired setup. I've turned off all other devices and still no go with the R6700v3 router. What is interesting, is if it is set as an Access Point it actually gets the 750mbps! But when it is in router mode it does not. I downgraded firmware to V1.0.2.66_10.0.48 and it now gets to around 550mbps - not what it should be and now living with security vulnerabilities.
Well, I finally gave up on my speed-restricted-Netgear R6700v3 router which replaced my older N300 Wireless Router WNR2000v3. I was proud to stay with Netgear, but now have new thoughts. As crazy as it is, I found an Asus RT-N66R router at goodwill for $9 at few months back to simply use it as a 1gigbit switch. However, it has now replaced the R67000v3 as my primary router. Here is proof that the R6700v3 has issues with speed limitations.

Same problem as everyone else.. when they upgrade the firmware to V1.0.4.122_10.0.95 it dropped my speed from 480 down to now 135 or so and 5G now doesn't work.. ridiculous. The old 1.0.366_10.0.50 version gave me the best speeds and no 5G problems, but now I can't roll it back and get it to work.
Same issue here. I "upgraded" my internet speed from 200 to 400 Mbps service (cost savings actually) but my router R6700v3 tapped out at ~ 180 Mbps with a low end of 80-100 Mbps with a firmware of a V1.0.4+. After hearing what has been posted here I decided to try the downgrade the firmware to R6700v3-V1.0.3.66_10.0.50 and low and behold the speed jumped up to 360 Mbps wired and 330 wireless. Netgear please fix this issue if you can. It is obvious to all that are on this forum that the latest firmware above R6700v3-V1.0.4... slows this router down well below 200 Mbps. This is unacceptable for a router that is "supposed" to have gig speed. I've even tried out the highest rev of the available software to no avail. Shame on you Netgear for not addressing this issue. Time to shop for a different warless router.
So, I've been working with NetGear ever since this post began. They sent several test firmwares that I tried and glad to say (after multiple long nights of testing, submitting debug log files and resetting network) they came up with one that is giving me the 750mbps! Screenshot below as proof. Hopefully, they will be releasing it soon so you all can enjoy the fast speeds. The test version that worked was V1.0.4.129_22.9.24. I cannot share it as I signed an NDA.
Transfers to the Internet through the Nighthawk r6700v3 (running the latest V1.0.4.128_10.0.104 firmware) were now very fast over the wired connection, but nowhere near the 400Mbps promised, although transfers within the LAN were >= 500 Mbps. Comcast then offered to bump my speed to 400Mbps at no charge. The Internet speed still maxed out at ~200Mbps over the wired connections.
Interesting that the Netgear r6700v3 device is unable to perform to spec when any feature needing Deep Packet Inspection is enabled. There is no warning about this anywhere. As Internet speeds get faster, one needs to carefully study infrastructure requirements, as the bottleneck choke point can shift around unexpectedly.
No it is NOT over Wifi it is a wired connection. my speeds wired direct out of the modem are around 450 mbs. So it appears that Netgear cannot change the laws of physics but they can change a lot of their customers 6700v3 routers into speed throttled hunks of junk! I suppose the next step is to do a factory reset and start clean. Netgear firmware updates wreck the router performance and the burden of repair falls upon the customer. Is there a law of physics that applies to crappy software releases and poor customer service Mr Guru?
Again, it is more subtle than that. A decade ago, a Gigabit router would have no problem handling the traffic on most Internet services. In most places, Gigabit speeds are relatively new. Here in the UK they are still rare.
A router designed for a Gigabit connections will happily process anything thrown at them. But now Internet speeds are hitting the limits of the hardware's capability. That's why newer hardware is designed for faster Internet.
I bought a Gigabyte GA-X99-Gaming G1 WIFI motherboard that came with an Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 Plus Bluetooth adapter. I have a NETGEAR Nighthawk AC1900 Dual Band Wi-Fi Gigabit Router (R7000). I though that the combination of these two would give me 300 Mbps for N wifi and 867 Mpbs for 5GHz for AC wifi. But the current speeds are much lower. When I connect to 2.4GHz I get around 120 Mbps at most. When I connect to 5GHz I get around 87 Mbps at most. I have searched forums all over the internet and I have read some of the threads here but I can't find a solution. I have all the latest drivers for the router and for the 7260 adapter. Also the lastest BIOS and all the Windows updates (8.1). I have tinkered with all sort of combinations of settings in the router and in the 7260 adapter. And this seems to be a problem with the 7260 adapter because other devices seem to be fine and achieve better speeds, specially in the 5GHz frequency. Can someone help me out here please? I am desperate, I don't know what else to do. It really disappoints me to have so many problems with this. Specially seeing that so many people have problems with these Intel wifi adapters. I can't believe Intel releases products so buggy, specially because I am an Intel employee, I though our goal was to make high quality, flawless products.
I was also suspecting the issue might be the router. Yesterday I installed dd-wrt firmware on it and forced AC-only and VHT (80+80 MHz) on the 5GHz channel. I still got the same slow speeds and worse, no internet connection, so I reverted to the stock firmware. BTW, I have a laptop with Intel Ultimate N Wi-Fi Link 5300 and I get 200+ Mbps on 2.4 GHz and 180+ Mbps on 5GHz. I still think that I should get more speed because the theoretical limit of the 5300 is 450 Mbps and the computer is really close to the router. So I don't know if this is a router issue or a combination of both. What I am really sure is that I shouldn't be getting 87 Mpbs at most on the 5GHz for the 7260 adapter and 144 Mpbs at most for 2.4GHz.
I have the exact same problem with slow internet speeds on a Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 14 with the Intel dual band wireless-ac 7260 card. I have downloaded and tried latest drivers from Lenovo and from Intel with no success fixing the slow speed problem. I have tried all the settings suggested above with no success. Please note that the advanced driver settings have no option for 801.11n mode, so there is no way to enable this setting. Could this be the problem?
Please do the following configuration that might help you with the speed. Go to Device manger >>> Network Adapters >>> select and right click on the adapter, then select the last option that should be Property, when the dialog box pops up, select the tab that says Advanced and proceed to the following configurations for 2.4 GHz band:
I made the changes you suggested and the throughput has improved to about 35 Mbps download speed. I really think that reducing the Roaming Aggressiveness setting gave the largest improvement. Incidentally, if I move the laptop right next to the router (about 3 feet away, in the same room as the router) I get about 110 Mbps! The 35 Mbps download speed was measured when the laptop was about 25 feet away in another room on another floor. This speed degradation is quite large, unfortunately, but I I suppose the speed degradation is due to the additional walls and floor being in the way.
I still do not understand, however, why my one laptop with the Intel Wireless-N 7260 card significantly outperforms my other laptop with the Intel Wireless-AC 7260 card when both laptops are operating at the same location and both are connected to my router using the 2.4 GHz band. My laptop with the Wireless-N card is getting 53 Mbps while my laptop with the Wireless-AC card is only getting 35 Mbps. That means the Intel Wireless-N card is running about 50% faster speeds than the Intel Wireless-AC card when all other conditions and settings are equivalentl.
I am having the exact same issue, I followed all the steps here and my Chromebook gets faster speeds in the same location - almost no degradation of performance with distance from the router. I have a Wireless-AC 7260 router and the performance degrades significantly when I am at the opposite end of the apartment.
We have recently come up with a new driver version 18.40.0 found in our download center. We recommend that you try it. here is the link: -Dual-Band-Wireless-AC-7260 Drivers & Software just make sure you are choosing the drivers that is compatible with your OS and architecture 32 or 64 bit. Also disable Bluetooth if not in use as it uses the same antennas and consequently may impact your speed.
I have X1 Carbon with Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260, have had several wifi performance issues, I tested with Xirrus WiFi and all good in terms of RF (optimizing my TP-LINK Archer C9 with the best 2.4G channel and eliminating 802.11b etc) but slow web page loading Youtube slow loading or web-based stalled downloadings still persist. BTW I upgraded Intel PROSet Wireless in the laptop and the same slow network (only in wifi, verified the wired connection and works good). I realized Oracle VirtualBox loaded special driver into WiFi configurations, I uninstalled complete VirtualBox and I solved my issue! 589ccfa754
