Theatre Arts

Fearless. Bold.

Theatre Arts at YACS is founded on the idea that all students, regardless of background or experience, can grow into skilled performers, storytellers and theatre practitioners. Theatre is a collaborative art form, but the focus and discipline that is required to succeed comes from the individual artist. YACS theatre students are empowered creators, sharing their own stories and unique perspectives onstage and off, through performance, scriptwriting, theatrical design, and media production.

Young Audiences High School is the only open-enrollment, arts conservatory-style high school in the Jefferson Parish. With a solid foundation in all art forms, via Young Audiences' unique, arts-integrated curriculum, YACS learners are prepared to choose an Arts Pathway, beginning in 9th grade, which they will follow for the duration of their high school career. Theatre students will take classes in performance, technical theatre, and media production, all culminating in a senior thesis show. Learners will also have the opportunity to audition for and perform in two mainstage productions each year, as well in the student-curated one-act play festival and biannual cabaret shows. At the end of the pathway, students will have earned their Certificate of Artistry in Theatre Arts.
