Little out there about using xwidgets for reading your HTML mails (yeah, they suck but we have to get over it, they're here to stay). I don't pretend that htlm2text or anything else really work satisfactorily and I don't really like launching a browser tab so here's how to get xwidget in place HTML views:

(assuming you don't have an xwidget enabled emacs already, (a) and (b) show how to make your own emacs. Google up installing build-essential and apt build-dep for emacs or your distro's equivalent. I use Debian so it's probably ubuntu/mint etc friendly).

This is an intermittent bug, possibly because no one had ever thought of invoking the browser with Menu. Overlook the error. And proceed by invoking the command directly with M-x xwidget-webkit-browse-url RET RET.

I don't use Emacs on Windows, nor do I use xwidgets, but I do know that Emacs has to be compiled with xwidgets (since some of its stuff is written in C) for it to work. Taking a cursory look at the configure options for Emacs, I see a particular option for compiling Emacs with xwidgets:

If Emacs was compiled with the appropriate support packages, it isable to show browser widgets in its buffers. The command M-xxwidget-webkit-browse-url asks for a URL to display in the browserwidget. The URL normally defaults to the URL at or before point, butif there is an active region (see The Mark and the Region), the default URL comesfrom the region instead, after removing any whitespace from it. Thecommand then creates a new buffer with the embedded browser showingthe specified URL. The buffer is put in the Xwidget-WebKit mode(similar to Image mode, see Viewing Image Files), which providesone-key commands for scrolling the widget, changing its size, andreloading it. Type C-h b in that buffer to see the keybindings.

By default, typing a self-inserting character inside an xwidgetwebkit buffer will do nothing, or trigger some special action. Tomake those characters and other common editing keys insert themselveswhen pressed, you can enable xwidget-webkit-edit-mode, whichredefines them to be passed through to the WebKit xwidget.

xwidget-webkit-isearch-mode is a minor mode that behavessimilarly to incremental search (see Incremental Search), butoperates on the contents of a WebKit widget instead of the currentbuffer. It is bound to C-s and C-r inside xwidget-webkitbuffers. When it is invoked by C-r, the initial search will beperformed in reverse direction.

I have been using xwidget a bit alongside the brave old yahoo widget and I started recently using it more by making new widgets, but as I am more in design/graphics than coding (with a software without any documentation/manual) I'm facing some issues. Unfortunately I've visited xwidgetsoft forum to find a dead place.

Widgets can be used in the Jupyter notebook with the xeus-cling C++ kernel simply by importing headers of the xwidgets library. For example, including the xslider headers makes the slider widget available.

The xwidgets framework differs from most common C++ widgets framework in that widgets have a value semantics instead of an entity semantics. Not dynamic polymorphism is at play, but static polymorphism based on the CRTP pattern.

The xwidgets framework makes use of the RAII pattern (Resource Acquisition is Initialization). Creating a new widget instance results in the creation of the counterpart in the HTML/JavaScript frontend. The destructor triggers the destruction of the frontend model and all the views, unless the object being destructed has already been moved from.

Providing a constructor for slider with a large number of such attributes would make the use of xwidgets very cumbersome, because users would need to know all the positional arguments to modify only one value. Instead, we mimick a keyword argument initialization with a method-chaining mechanism. 2351a5e196
