Welcome!
I am an Assistant Professor at the School of Public Policy, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHK-Shenzhen). Prior to joining CUHK-Shenzhen, I was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs at Brown University. I received my Ph.D. from the Department of Political Science at the University of Chicago.
My research interests are comparative and international political economy, with focuses on China, technology, global supply chains, and state-business relations. My book project examines an important but understudied segment of China's economy — its tech startup sector — and how the Chinese state guides entrepreneurship and venture capital to develop high-tech industries. Other projects include the relations between the state and top business tycoons in China, and the politics of global supply chains.
My research has appeared in Politics & Society and Socio-Economic Review and has been supported by the Charles Koch Foundation, and the Center for East Asian Studies and the George J. Stigler Center for the Study of the Economy and the State at the University of Chicago.
