Roto Brush (2010)

This feature (Roto Brush) has caused the greatest excitement (and the most questions) among users of previous versions of After Effects. To paraphrase Arthur C. Clarke, Roto Brush is "sufficiently advanced to be indistinguishable from magic"; This tool won magically erase your rotoscoping troubles, but it represents a quantum leap forward in moving image selection, opening up new possibilities that you might not have even considered for working with footage.

After Effects CS5 introduces a revolutionary new tool called the Roto Brush that will dramatically reduce the time you spend creating mattes for objects in your video. Revolutionary is a big word, but it fits. The Roto Brush borders on magic.

Hats off to Adobe; the new Roto Brush is a huge leap forward and makes CS5 well worth the price of admission. Those who do roto regularly will appreciate just how valuable it is in terms of the time it can save. And those who have avoided doing roto, or haven’t done roto before, will discover just how easy it now is to add rotoscoping effects to your compositions.

For anyone who does a lot of rotoscoping, this is an exciting new tool in Adobe After Effects CS5.

Prior to the release to the public of Adobe CS5 suites, I was able to view and review many of the exciting new features now available in most of the Adobe applications, but none excited me more than to see the After Effects Roto Brush in action and to see just how easy and relatively quick it worked.
