I recently bought an B215 printer and soon after had to upgrade to Mac OS Big Sur (directed by my emplyer) and I know find i can no longer print anything. I tried a re-install but the install package just gives an error. I found the xerox big sur page which said B215 is 'level 3' i.e unclear if/when a big sur driver will be produced. This is a major issue for me so I am trying to find out if it will be resolved anytime soon or if i need to sell th eprinetr and buy one that has a better level of OS support like HP.

I have sucesfully runned all my needed programs in wine, and the migration was almost done till i found that all my 7 pos printers, model OKI POS 407, dont have a driver for linux. After a lot of tests i sucesfully ran the OKI POS with okiibm driver for CUPS though is not producing a good quality printing so im not sure is ready for production.

Here are the questions, I have old hardware and not willing to change (this is one of the reasons to install linux on it). Can i do something to make work the windows printer driver in the linux box?. Virtualization is an option, but not for running all the programs, because that other reason to run linux, I get atacked by virus often and had to restore the entire windows box by reformatig, maybe virtualize a small printer server?, is it possible?,Is it viable??

OK, I trying new solutions here, reading the VMWare docuemntation it says its possible to use the drivers from the guest operating system (windows) to commnicate directly to the device (in this case the printer), ill try this solution and repport back in case someone has a similar problem , im thinking on running windows 95 or 98, with a minimal install.

Printer Driver Packager NX is a tool for IT managers to customize and package printer drivers.

Ā Customizing allows them to control employees' printer driver settings.

Ā Packaging allows IT managers to preset all the mandatory parameters for the printer driver installation.

Ā Also multiple printer drivers can be gathered into one package so they can be installed by end users as a single execution.

You will not lose capabilities by moving from a traditional driver to the Global Print Driver. We offer 100% feature and design parity between the Xerox Global Print Driver and traditional Xerox drivers for most Xerox products.

You must confirm that you download the correct file for your printer. The Japanese and Chinese versions of drivers require models for Asian. They will not work in the standard printer model when the built-in Japanese and Chinese fonts are selected.

If you need the Japanese version of driver, download from Japanese web site

( ).

But there are a couple of users who have an issue where they can't print and it asks them to install an updated driver like once or twice a week and I have to remote in and put in my admin password for them to start being usable again. Same users it's happening to, nothing special about those users (same AD group, same permissions, standard users with nothing special about their accounts).

Probably their computer updated their own printer drivers through Windows Update and it asks the printer to be updated on the computer. Usually this problem happens when GPO Printers are deployed with non packaged drivers.

The clients in your organization are getting the Windows update which now requires the prompt for print driver installation and one will need to be admin on the client to install the driver. This is now by design unless the print driver is package aware from the print server as well as signed by Microsoft.

Starting with Windows Vista, the print drivers included in Windows are Package Aware and there is a column to display this in Print Management on Server 2008 SP2, but you need to select to display this, it may not be enabled by default. In Drivers section of Print Management, right click, View , Add remove columns, Packaged.

There are two methods I found to find and install the device drivers (one for the printer, and one for the scanner). I'll document the easiest one for Ubuntu users in the hopes that we can all learn something from this.

Also, the Canon MX475 is mentioned in About AirPrint - Apple Support as a printer supporting the driverless AirPrint technology, meaning that it should not be necessary to download a separate driver at all. Software from the printer manufacturer may add functionality.

Only slight niggle is that I must have downloaded the relevant driver about four times and selected Macintosh HD as the destination but I can't find anything on my HD or in Applications. I'd like to get rid of them, any idea where they might be?

I suppose that the Canon drivers must have some features otherwise not available. Sorry, no immediate idea why the drivers would not install, or where to find the downloads (when a file name search has not revealed anything).

I have found if you put the driver on the computer that the printer is not connected to ie:printer is connected to windows 64 bit machine and the computer you want to share it with is Vista 32 bit, you will need to add the 32 bit driver to the "additional drivers" box then connect to the printer on the vista machine that fixed the same error I read here

We have new printer. i am unsure if it is safe to download the driver from the internet for the laserjet pro MFP 130 as I see a warning which I do not unerstand but it seeems there is a problem when using this version of windows. I dont want to cause damage to computer.

If you just want to use the AirPrint driver on a printer with a reliable DNS name or IP address, use the model switch in lpadmin instead of a PPD path, and choose the IPP Everywhere driver.

lpadmin -P SomeAirPrinter -D "Some AirPrint Printer" -E -v ipp://example.com/queuename -m everywhere

If you're in a situation where you don't have fixed network toopology and must use dnssd, you should really rethink your network management, but the sequence of steps is:

1. Find the AirPrint printer URL with lpinfo -v. Pick one of anything starting dnssd:// .

2. Use the dns-sd command to retrieve the TXT record from the advertisement for the dnssd URL.

3. Use you preferred text parser to pull out the UDID for the printer.

4. Append the UDID to the dnssd URL, and use that with lpadmin and the IPP Everywhere driver.

lpadmin -P SomeAirPrinter -E -V dnssd://Some%20Air%20Printer._ipp._tcp.local./?uuid=0123abcd-4567-efab-cd890123efab -m everywhere

The ippfind command provides a somewhat easier way to get a working local queue, albeit not exactly equivalent to the way AirPrint does it.

1. Run ippfind. No arguments needed since they defaults are fine.

2. Add the queue with the resulting URL and IPP everywhere driver

lpadmin -p SomeAirPrinter -E -v $(ippfind | head -1) -P /System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/PrintCore.framework/Versions/A/Resources/AirPrint.ppd

Do not use the above command in production since you can't trust the queue names will always appear in the same order in ippfind.

You're using the IPP everywhere driver as mentioned by @joshuasee above. It's a generic driver so the printer icon and settings won't be specific to the device. AirPrint still searches for and installs a manufacturer "driver" and will use the everywhere driver in other cases.

@mainelysteve as you noted above @cpominville was still using the IPP Everywhere generic driver. Is there a significant difference between the Airprint driver and the IPP Everywhere driver? If so, how do you designate the Airprint driver. If I use -m airprint or -P with anything, I get the dreaded "May 29 2020 13:27:46 -0400 ERROR: Error: lpadmin: Printer drivers are deprecated and will stop working in a future version of CUPS" and my install script fails.

@roodavis That may be down the device (MFP or not) and whether it provides icons, finishing options, etc. IPP everywhere will not since it's a generic driver. My comment above about the two being similar was more or less tied to devices that don't provide that information or for instances where the AirPrint broadcasting was coming from software based sources, not the tree killer itself.

Busy and demanding business environments often have multiple OKI networked printer devices to support them which usually require the instalment of a number of different drivers by each user. This in turn needs to be managed by the IT department taking up time and resources.

When you use this machine for the first time, configure the printer driver so that it contains information such as what options are installed in this machine and whether authentication settings have been configured.

If I install Windows fresh and click on add printer, there is a button which does a one time download of additional drivers that have not been included in the ISO image. After clicking it, the list will be much bigger. 2351a5e196
