This Privacy Policy explains how Xpensy ("we", "our", or "the app") handles your information.
Xpensy stores all of your financial data locally on your device. This includes:
Expense transactions (amounts, dates, categories, notes)
Custom categories you create
Your display name
Your preferred currency and theme settings
This data never leaves your device except in two cases described below (exports and AI Insights). We do not operate any servers that receive or store your personal data.
Important: Because your data is stored only on your device, it will be permanently lost if you uninstall the app or switch to a new device — unless you have exported a backup using the Export Data feature. We strongly recommend exporting your data regularly and keeping a copy in a safe location.
When you use the Export Data feature, the app generates a JSON file of your transactions for the month you select. This file is shared using your device's native share sheet — to a location of your choosing. We do not receive or have access to exported files.
Xpensy includes two optional AI features powered by the Google Gemini API: AI Insights and AI Chat. When you use either feature, the app transmits the following data to Google's servers for processing:
Expense transaction amounts, dates, weekday, and hour of day
Transaction categories and any notes you have entered
Your monthly income (if you have set it in the app)
Your selected currency symbol
For AI Chat, up to 40 recent transactions from the previous month and category-level summaries from older months may also be included in each request to provide context for your conversation.
No personally identifying information (such as your name or device ID) is included in these requests. This data is used solely to generate the spending analysis or chat response you requested and is not used for advertising or tracking.
Google processes this data under their own privacy policy and generative AI terms:
Both AI features are entirely optional. If you do not open the Insights tab or AI Chat, no data is sent to Google.
Xpensy uses the following third-party service:
Google Gemini API — for AI-powered spending insights (see Section 3)
We do not use any advertising networks, crash reporting services, or analytics SDKs. No third party tracks your usage of the app.
Your data is stored in an SQLite database on your device, protected by your device's own security (passcode, biometrics, encryption). We recommend keeping your device software up to date to maintain this protection.
Xpensy is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any data from children.
If we make material changes to this Privacy Policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
