If you want a lightweight, sweat-proof headset designed for active safety and all-day comfort during video calls, choose Xmenha Outside Open Ear; if you need ultra-low latency monitoring and professional-grade audio fidelity for content creation or critical video work, choose Hollyland Lark MAX 2.
• Xmenha Outside Open Ear: Its biggest strength is the secure, bone-conduction design that keeps your ears open for situational awareness while running or driving; its trade-off is a shorter single-session battery life of roughly 5.5 hours compared to pro gear. This pick is for the active commuter or athlete who needs a wireless headset for video calls without isolating themselves from traffic noise.
• Hollyland Lark MAX 2: Its standout feature is the hybrid 2.4GHz and Bluetooth connectivity that delivers near-zero latency for precise audio syncing; the trade-off is a more specialized setup with fewer features focused on general sports durability. This pick is for the video creator or remote worker who prioritizes perfect audio sync and extended listening sessions over rugged outdoor activity.
The Xmenha Outside Open Ear is built around a specific philosophy: safety first, comfort second, and performance third. The design utilizes an open-ear architecture that sits around the ear rather than inside the canal. This isn't just a stylistic choice; it fundamentally changes how you interact with your environment. When you are wearing these, you can hear your own voice naturally while still being fully aware of cars, cyclists, or people approaching you. For anyone who takes their video calls seriously but refuses to sit in a soundproof room, this is a game-changer. You can take a call while walking your dog or waiting for a bus without missing a single siren or warning shout.
The physical build leans heavily into stability and lightness. Weighing in at a very manageable mass, the unit uses premium soft silicone to hug the ear securely. The ergonomic shape ensures that even during vigorous movement—like jumping rope or sprinting—the headphones stay put. This is crucial for the "headband headphones for video calls" use case where you might be pacing around your living room or moving between rooms during a meeting. The claim of a "painless and harmless" fit resonates because there is no pressure point pushing against the eardrum. If you have sensitive ears or struggle with traditional in-ear buds causing fatigue after an hour, the Xmenha offers a relief that other products simply cannot match.

However, the battery reality requires a clear understanding of your workflow. With a 400mAh capacity, the device delivers about 5 to 6 hours of continuous playtime. While this covers a standard morning commute or a mid-length conference call, it falls short for a full day of back-to-back meetings without a recharge. The charging is done via USB-C, which is convenient, but the lack of a massive battery means you will likely need to top it off during the day if you are using it heavily. Furthermore, while the Bluetooth 5.2 connection provides a solid range of about 10 meters (380 feet) barrier-free, the focus here is clearly on the open-air experience rather than high-fidelity isolation. It is the ideal tool for the person who values the freedom of not blocking out the world over having a sealed, immersive audio bubble.
The Hollyland Lark MAX 2 enters the conversation as a tool for professionals who cannot afford a millisecond of delay. Unlike standard consumer earbuds that rely solely on Bluetooth for everything, this unit introduces a dual-mode architecture. It supports a dedicated 2.4GHz wireless monitoring mode alongside standard Bluetooth. The 2.4GHz mode boasts an ultra-low latency of just 25ms. In practical terms, this means the audio you hear matches the video you see on your screen or monitor with incredible precision. If you are recording video, live streaming, or participating in high-stakes video calls where lip-sync matters, this feature is non-negotiable. Standard Bluetooth compression often introduces lag that makes conversations feel disjointed or music sync poorly with video edits; the Lark MAX 2 eliminates that friction entirely.
Battery endurance is another area where this product dominates the comparison. It offers up to 18 hours of usage in 2.4GHz mode and 17 hours in Bluetooth mode. This is a massive leap over the 5-hour window provided by the Xmenha. For a content creator shooting a long interview or a remote employee attending a marathon series of webinars, knowing you won't run out of power before lunch is a significant advantage. The inclusion of fast charging further enhances this utility, ensuring that a quick plug-in session restores enough juice to get through the rest of the day. The package also includes a 3.5mm TRS cable, adding a layer of versatility for users who might need to connect to older equipment or cameras directly, bridging the gap between modern wireless convenience and legacy analog compatibility.
The design intent here is slightly different from the Xmenha. While it maintains an open-ear form factor for comfort during long sessions, it feels more like a piece of professional monitoring gear than a sports accessory. The enclosure material is silicone, providing a soft touch, but the primary driver is a Balanced Armature Driver. This type of driver is renowned for clarity and detail, making it superior for hearing subtle nuances in speech or mixing audio. However, it lacks the explicit "sound isolation" controls found in the Xmenha's data sheet, relying instead on the open design for situational awareness. It is best suited for the individual who spends most of their time stationary or in controlled environments where they need absolute audio accuracy rather than the rugged durability required for outdoor sports.
• Best for Active Safety: If your daily routine involves running, cycling, or driving while taking calls, the Xmenha Outside Open Ear is the safer bet due to its bone conduction technology and secure, sweat-proof build.
• Best for Audio Sync: For anyone creating video content or needing perfect lip-sync during virtual meetings, the Hollyland Lark MAX 2 wins decisively with its 25ms low-latency 2.4GHz transmission.
• Best Battery Life: If you need a device that lasts a full workday without interruption, the Hollyland Lark MAX 2 is the clear winner, offering nearly triple the playback time of the Xmenha.
• Best for Connectivity Flexibility: The Hollyland Lark MAX 2 offers a unique combination of 2.4GHz and Bluetooth modes plus a wired 3.5mm option, whereas the Xmenha relies strictly on wireless Bluetooth.
• Best for All-Day Comfort: Both are open-ear, but the Xmenha emphasizes "painless" wear for small ears and high-movement scenarios, while the Hollyland focuses on reducing fatigue during long, static monitoring sessions.
• Best Value for Professionals: The Hollyland Lark MAX 2 includes a comprehensive kit with multiple cables and a case, catering specifically to the needs of creators and tech-savvy users.
• Best for Sports Durability: The Xmenha explicitly markets itself with waterproof and sweatproof ratings, making it the only logical choice for intense workouts or rainy commutes.
• Best for Video Calls: If the primary goal is the best wireless headphones for video calls in a dynamic environment where you need to hear your surroundings, the Xmenha Outside Open Ear is the superior choice.
In my opinion, the decision comes down to whether you view your audio device as a safety tool or a production tool. I would buy the Hollyland Lark MAX 2 if my primary focus is professional output, long-duration meetings, and flawless audio synchronization. The 18-hour battery life and the ability to switch to a zero-latency 2.4GHz mode make it an indispensable asset for serious video work. However, if I were looking for a wireless headset for video calls that allows me to remain safe and connected to my environment while jogging or commuting, I would choose the Xmenha Outside Open Ear. Its robust, sweat-proof design and focus on situational awareness make it the more versatile companion for an active lifestyle. Ultimately, for pure functionality in a video call context where safety is paramount, the Xmenha is the more human-centric choice.
Both models function well as open-ear options for calls, but the Xmenha is specifically engineered for stability during movement, making it better for "headband-style" active use, while the Hollyland excels in stable, high-clarity studio-like environments.
The Hollyland Lark MAX 2 is the clear winner with up to 18 hours of playback, easily covering a full day of meetings, whereas the Xmenha Outside Open Ear offers approximately 5.5 hours per charge.
The Xmenha data sheet mentions noise control and sound isolation features to help suppress external noise during calls, while the Hollyland Lark MAX 2 lists "None" for noise control, focusing instead on audio clarity and low latency.
You generally have to choose one path: the Xmenha is optimized for sports and safety with its waterproof rating, while the Hollyland Lark MAX 2 is optimized for professional recording with its 2.4GHz monitoring capabilities.
