Dr. Xi Long is currently Associate Professor of "Intelligent Health Monitoring" in the SPS group, Department of Electrical Engineering, Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) and a Daily Management Team member in the Eindhoven MedTech Innovation Center (e/MTIC), Eindhoven, the Netherlands. He is a senior member of the IEEE (SMIEEE).
Prior to that, since 2016, he has been a Senior Scientist and an AI/Data Lead for family care solutions at Philips Research (formerly NatLab), and a (part-time) Assistant Professor at the TU/e, Eindhoven, the Netherlands. In the past years, he has been a (part-time) Lead Scientist with Máxima MC and UMC Utrecht for several collaborative projects. He was a guest scientist at Philips from 2011 to 2015 working towards his PhD on cardiorespiratory sleep monitoring. In 2010 and 2011, he worked for Tencent (CDC) in China with responsibilities for user research and data mining of internet products and services.
He received the PhD degree with distinction Cum Laude (News) in Electrical Engineering from the TU/e, the Netherlands, in 2015 (promotors Prof.dr. Ronald M. Aarts, Prof.dr. Johan Arends, and co-promotor Dr. Reinder Haakma). Before that, he received the MSc degree in Electrical Engineering from the TU/e in 2009 (with a fully-funded scholarship awarded by NXP), and the BEng degree in Electronic Information Engineering with Distinction from Zhejiang University, China, in 2006.
His research interests include:
Signal processing, machine learning and artificial intelligence (with the focus on reliable and trustworthy AI) for intelligent health monitoring and digital medicine
Electrophysiology and vital signs, wearable/unobtrusive sensing, audio/video analysis
Applications on sleep & activity, patient monitoring, neonatology & pergnancy, epilepsy, cardiology, telehealth, clinical decision support, and so on.
I have an Erdős-Bacon number of 6, same as for example, Richard Feynman, Stephen Hawking, and Elon Musk.
Erdős number = 3: Xi Long -> Jean-Paul Linnartz -> Jacobus H. van Lint -> Paul Erdös (Optical Express, 2017 -> Journal of Combinatorial Theory, Series A, 1998 -> Indagationes Mathematicae, 1982).
Bacon number = 3 (incl. TV): Xi Long -> Leanne Liu -> James Hong -> Kevin Bacon (Warm Heart play -> Zu: Warriors from the Magic Mountain -> R.I.P.D.)
OR = 4 (Movie only): Xi Long -> Leanne Liu -> Philip Ko -> James Hong -> Kevin Bacon (Warm Heart play -> Opium and the Kung-Fu Master-> Dynamite Brothers -> R.I.P.D.)
Wait, there is one more interesting number that less people know: Sabbath number. After searching for quite a while, I eventually ended up my Sabbath number of 6 (hope I am correct...)
Sabbath number = 6: (incl. dancing, singing, or instrument playing) Xi Long -> Wang Yi -> Liu Tao -> Gina Alice -> Lang Lang -> MetallicA -> Ozzy Osbourne (ZJU Wenqin Dancing Group 2003 -> "The Semi Gods and Semi Devils" Offline Show 2003 -> Bazaar Charity Show 2019 -> Chopin - Nocturne Op.9 No.1 In B Flat Minor 2020 -> One Featuring Lang Lang 2017 -> Iron Man and Paranoid 2010)
So I have an Erdős-Bacon-Sabbath (EBS) number of 12!
