Weekends were always special growing up, filled with the smell of fresh waffles. One morning, I added a touch of love to our classic recipe by making Heart Waffles. Perfectly fluffy and filled with warmth, they're a reminder that breakfast can be made with love. Whether for a special occasion or just to start the day right, these Heart Waffles are sure to bring a smile.
ingredients
waffle batter:
1 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup cornstarch
2 tsp baking powder
3/4 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup butter (melted & cooled)
1 1/4 cup milk (room temperature)
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 eggs (whites & yolks separated)
1/4 cup granulated sugar
toppings:Â
strawberries (sliced)
bananas (sliced)
blueberries
chocolate
caramel
sweetened condensed milk
dulce de leche
maple syrup
instructions
1. in a large bowl, whisk the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, baking soda, and salt - set aside
2. in a medium bowl, combine the butter, milk, vanilla extract, and egg yolks - whisk until fully combined
3. add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients - gently whisking until just combined
4. in a separate bowl, add the egg whites - beat on medium speed until soft peaks form
5. add the sugar to the egg whites - beat on medium/high speed until sugar has been fully mixed in
6. using a spatula, fold the egg whites into the batter - do not overmix
7. preheat the waffle iron - grease with butter or cooking spray
8. scoop 1/4 cup of batter onto the heart waffle iron - cook until golden brown (about 2 mins)
9. to keep waffles warm, place them in an oven preheated @ 200
