We are seeking participants for a research study that investigates the interaction between autonomous vehicles and pedestrians. We would like to invite you to participate in this study and experience several design concepts that facilitate the interaction with urban robots. The study will be conducted from Oct 20th to January 15th.
As a token of our appreciation for your valuable time, you will be compensated with a $20 gift card.
You are invited to take part in a research study that explores the interaction design between autonomous vehicles and pedestrians (e.g. urban robots and driverless cars). The study aims to gain a deeper understanding of the various factors involved in the development of effective interaction strategies between autonomous vehicles and pedestrians.
The study is being carried out by the following researchers:
• Dr Martin Tomitsch (Professor)
• Dr Stewart Worrall (Senior Research Fellow)
• Dr Marius Hoggenmueller (Lecturer in Design)
• Xinyan Yu (PhD Student)
• Tram Thi Minh Tran (PhD Candidate)
• Yiyuan Wang (PhD Candidate)
The study is being conducted by Xinyan Yu (PhD Student). It will form the basis for the PhD in Interaction Design at the University of Sydney under the supervision of Dr Martin Tomitsch (Professor) ,Dr Stewart Worrall (Senior Research Fellow) , and Dr Marius Hoggenmueller (Lecturer in Design).
Before the study, you will receive a questionnaire that collects some demographic information, such as your age group, gender and occupation.
At the beginning of the study, you will be asked to complete pre-study questionnaires about pedestrian behaviour, receptivity of technology and/or autonomous vehicle (AV). After that, you will be asked to interact with an AV(urban robots) in one or multiple scenarios. Each scenario is characterised by the interaction design concept, and the setup of traffic scenarios (e.g., a public shared space where pedestrians and vehicles share the road). After you have finished experiencing the design concept, you will be asked to complete a questionnaire where you can rate several aspects of the system and leave any further feedback you might have. At the end of the study, you will also be asked a series of questions about the AV, the interaction design concept, and how you found the experience.
The study will take approximately 60 minutes to complete.
