Question of the day: What are sedimentary rocks ?

Answer: Sedimentary rocks are formed on or near the earth's surface unlike igneous and metamorphic rocks. They are mostly made out of grains such as pebbles, sand, and gravel. And they typically contain organisms and fossils !

Let's take a look at what the different types of weathering look like.

Chemical

Notice how smooth the sides of the rocks are. The rainwater trickles down the rock and over time it made the rock look smooth on the sides.

Biological

This tree created cracks within the rock in order to burrow its roots into the ground underneath the rock.

Physical

The rock looks as if someone cut the rock with a knife. In actuality, this is one of the physical processes called freeze-thaw. The water seeped into the rocks cracks, froze (expanded), and split the rock
