Xiaoxiao (筱筱) Zhou

👋 Hi, I’m Xiaoxiao Zhou (周筱筱), an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biostatistics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), starting in August 2024. I earned my Ph.D. in Statistics from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, where I was mentored by Dr. Xinyuan Song. During my Ph.D., I had the opportunity to visit the University of California, Berkeley, to work with Dr. Peng Ding on causal inference. Following my Ph.D., I completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Duke University in the Department of Statistical Science under the mentorship of Dr. Fan Li.

📖 My research focuses on developing and applying statistical methods to address real-world challenges, with a particular emphasis on causal inference:

Define and analyze various causal estimands in randomized clinical trials;
Handle intercurrent events in clinical trials (e.g., treatment discontinuation or switching) to improve the interpretation of clinical trials;
Emulate clinical trials using observational data
Causal machine learning

📊 I also work on Bayesian modeling to handle modalities, including longitudinal data analysis, survival analysis, missing data, and neuroimaging data:

The applications of my research are diverse, ranging from clinical trials to psychological and behavioral studies. I actively collaborate with researchers across disciplines, including biostatisticians and clinicians, to bring statistical insights into a wide array of fields.

Much of my work focuses on cardiovascular conditions, diabetes, and neurodegenerative disorders, contributing to a deeper understanding of disease progression and treatment effects.
