Dr. Xiaowei Yue is an assistant professor and Grado Early Career Faculty Fellow at Virginia Tech. He got a Ph.D. degree in Industrial Engineering from Georgia Tech. Dr. Yue’s research interests focus on engineering-driven data analytics for intelligent manufacturing. His research has obtained more than 15 best paper awards and two best dissertation awards. Dr. Yue is a recipient of multiple recognitions, such as Dr. Hamed K. Eldin Outstanding Early Career IE in Academia Award, SME Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer award, IISE Manufacturing & Design Outstanding Young Investigator Award, and Grainger Frontiers of Engineering Grant Award from the National Academy of Engineering. Dr. Yue serves as an associate editor for IISE Transactions, Journal of Intelligent Manufacturing, and IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems. Dr. Yue serves as board director for the IISE DAIS division and QCRE division.

Dr. Yue is selected to be the recipient of Dr. Hamed K. Eldin Outstanding Early Career IE in Academia Award in 2023.
Our research received the IISE Transactions Best Paper Award.

Dr. Yue was selected to receive the M&D Outstanding Young Investigator Award from IISE Manufacturing and Design Division. This award recognizes one outstanding early-career Manufacturing and Design (M&D) Division member for the technical contribution to manufacturing and design every year.
My Ph.D. students Dr. Areej AlBahar and Dr. Yinan Wang have passed the defenses and graduated in Spring 2022. Dr. AlBahar will join the Kuwait University as a tenure-track assistant professor, and Dr. Yinan Wang will join the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute as a tenure-track assistant professor in Fall 2022. Dr. Yue was selected to receive the prestigious 2022 Grainger Foundation Frontiers of Engineering Grant Award from the National Academy of Engineering (NAE). This news was highlighted in the NAE's Spotlight Newsletter in April 2022.
Dr. Yue was selected to receive the 2022 Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer Award, SME. This award recognizes manufacturing engineers, age 35 or younger, who have made exceptional contributions and accomplishments in the manufacturing industry.
October, 2021, our paper "WOOD: Wasserstein-based Out-of-Distribution Detection" was selected as the winner of the Best Theoretical Paper Award in the 16th INFORMS Workshop on Data Mining and Decision Analytics. Congratulations, Yinan Wang!

August, 2021, Dr. Yue has been elevated to the rank of IEEE Senior Member. He is also a senior member of the Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE) and American Society for Quality (ASQ).

June, 2021, Dr. Yue was selected to the 2021 U.S. Frontiers of Engineering Symposium organized by the National Academy of Engineering.
June, 2021, Ph.D. student Yinan Wang won the Best Poster Award at the NAMRC/MSEC conference, organized by ASME and SME. Yinan also won the Gilbreth Memorial Fellowship from IISE. Congratulations!
May, 2021, Dr. Yue serves as a DOD faculty fellow for developing cutting-edge manufacturing techniques, and fostering a next-generation of manufacturing workforce. We thank the support from the DOD MEEP.
