Xiaofeng Denton Peng's academic pursuits laid a robust foundation for his career, starting with a bachelor's degree in international business from Jiangxi Fenglin College of Foreign Economy and Trade in 1993. He enhanced his business acumen by obtaining an executive MBA from the Guanghua School of Management at Peking University in 2002. These qualifications prepared him for significant business and renewable energy roles.
His entrepreneurial journey began with establishing Suzhou Liouxin Industrial, Ltd. in March 1997, where he propelled the company to become a leader in Asia's protective equipment industry. Building on this success, he founded LDK Solar in July 2005, where, as Chairman and CEO, he led the company to specialize in producing multicrystalline solar wafers, crucial for solar energy solutions.
Xiaofeng joined SPI Energy in January 2011, initially as Director and Executive Chairman, later becoming the Chairman in February 2017 and CEO in 2016. Under his leadership, SPI Energy has emerged as a significant force in the global renewable energy market, diversifying into sectors like solar, battery storage, and electric vehicles (EVs), all aligned with global sustainability goals.
In addition to his role at SPI Energy, Xiaoping serves as CEO and Chairman of Phoenix Motor Inc., a trailblazer in the electric vehicle industry, focusing on all-electric transit buses and electric drive systems for medium- and light-duty vehicles in the United States. His leadership is crucial in guiding the company through innovations in zero-emission vehicles and contributing to reducing carbon footprints in urban transport.
His efforts extend beyond corporate achievements; he has been instrumental in advancing global sustainability through renewable energy projects. This includes managing the development of solar photovoltaic projects and promoting the use of solar energy equipment across various international markets, thereby facilitating a global shift towards renewable energy sources.
