Many problems, such as poverty, discrimination and inequality still persist in today’s world. Social policies are essential to correct for these problems and meet human needs, such as education, health, work and wellbeing. This course helps students understand how social policies influence practice and how effective those policies are. Through readings and discussion, students will be able to better understand the roles of various actors and analyze the costs and benefits of social policies. You can also build your own critical thinking about many policies in our daily life. You will also have opportunities to improve your communication skills (eg. oral presentation and academic writing) throughout this course.
