If you want a rugged, wired solution specifically designed for legacy landline desk phones in a call center environment, choose Wantek Corded Telephone Headset; if you need a modern, USB-connected headset optimized for digital collaboration platforms like Skype for Business and Zoom, choose EPOS Sennheiser Consumer Audio. These two devices serve fundamentally different ecosystems, and picking the wrong one means you will likely end up with hardware that simply does not connect to your system. The Wantek is built for the analog world of traditional office telephony, while the EPOS Sennheiser is engineered for the digital workflows of remote work and virtual meetings.
• Wantek Corded Telephone Headset: Its biggest strength is specialized compatibility with specific ShoreTel, Polycom, and Plantronics landline models, offering passive noise cancellation and a lightweight 3.6-ounce build for all-day wear.
• EPOS Sennheiser Consumer Audio: Its primary advantage is active noise cancellation and seamless plug-and-play connectivity via USB for modern software platforms, featuring a flexible boom arm and a robust 2-year warranty.
• Best for: Wantek fits call centers using legacy hardware; EPOS Sennheiser fits professionals working from home or offices on Teams, Zoom, and Skype.
The Wantek Corded Telephone Headset is a tool built for a very specific type of workspace: the traditional office or call center where landline infrastructure still rules. This isn't a gadget for your smartphone or laptop; it is a dedicated interface for the physical phone sitting on your desk. The design relies on an RJ9 connector, which plugs directly into compatible handsets from manufacturers like ShoreTel, Polycom, Zultys, Toshiba, NEC, and Nortel. If your organization runs on these specific legacy systems, this headset bridges the gap between old hardware and clear audio.
What makes this unit stand out in its niche is the focus on comfort and acoustic protection for high-volume users. The headband is adjustable to fit various head sizes, and the ear cushions are made of soft leatherette to prevent pressure points. Furthermore, it includes an Acoustic Shock Protection Circuit, a safety feature designed to protect your hearing from sudden volume spikes, which is a common risk in busy call environments.
However, this headset demands strict adherence to compatibility lists. It explicitly states it is NOT for cell phones or computers. You cannot plug this into a PC or a mobile device and expect it to work. It requires a specific phone model listed in the product description, such as the Polycom SoundPoint series (300, 450, 500, etc.) or various Cisco and Avaya landlines. If you do not have one of these exact models, the device is useless to you. It also relies on passive noise cancellation, meaning it blocks sound physically through the ear cup design but does not electronically filter background noise. This makes it ideal for a quiet office but less effective in a noisy open-plan area where electronic filtering is needed.

The EPOS Sennheiser SC 60 USB ML is designed for the modern professional who lives in a digital ecosystem. Unlike the Wantek, which connects to a physical phone jack, this headset uses a USB connection to integrate directly with your computer. It is built for platforms like Skype for Business, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, and Zoom. If your job involves video conferencing, virtual team meetings, or remote support, this is the device that aligns with your workflow. The "USB Plug and Play" feature ensures that you can enjoy voice clarity and quality sound immediately without needing complex drivers or external adapters.
A major selling point here is the active noise cancellation technology. While the Wantek relies on physical barriers to block sound, the EPOS Sennheiser actively filters out unwanted background noise. This is crucial for anyone working from a coffee shop, a busy home office, or a household with children and pets. The microphone features a bendable boom arm that allows you to position the mic precisely near your mouth, ensuring your voice is captured clearly regardless of how you move. The sensitivity is rated at 113 decibels, powered by a neodymium speaker, which delivers the legendary HD sound associated with the brand. This combination of active noise control and high-fidelity audio creates a crystal-clear communication experience that is essential for professional presentations.
Durability and support are also central to this product's identity. The construction uses solid plastics and large, comfortable ear pads to create a lightweight yet sturdy solution. The package includes acoustic foam ear pads mounted to the headset, which can help further enhance comfort during long sessions. Perhaps most importantly, EPOS offers a 2-year warranty on all headsets, including batteries, providing peace of mind that the manufacturer stands behind the product's longevity. However, it is worth noting that this is a single-sided business headset focused on software integration. If you are trying to use it with an older, non-USB landline phone, it will not function as a direct replacement without an adapter.
• Best for Legacy Landline Phones → Wantek Corded Telephone Headset (Direct RJ9 connection to specific ShoreTel, Polycom, and Plantronics models).
• Best for Modern Software & Video Calls → EPOS Sennheiser Consumer Audio (Native USB support for Teams, Zoom, and Skype).
• Best for Active Noise Reduction → EPOS Sennheiser Consumer Audio (Uses electronic filtering to cancel background chatter).
• Best for Long-Term Warranty Coverage → EPOS Sennheiser Consumer Audio (Includes a comprehensive 2-year warranty).
• Best for Call Center Volume → Wantek Corded Telephone Headset (Engineered for continuous use with acoustic shock protection).
• Best for Microphone Flexibility → EPOS Sennheiser Consumer Audio (Features a bendable boom arm for precise positioning).
• Best for Simple Setup → EPOS Sennheiser Consumer Audio (True plug-and-play via USB with no phone configuration required).
In my opinion, the EPOS Sennheiser Consumer Audio is the superior choice for the vast majority of today's workers. The shift toward digital communication tools like Zoom and Teams has made the USB connection the standard, rendering the proprietary landline jacks of the Wantek obsolete for most people. The active noise cancellation alone is a game-changer for anyone working in a non-soundproof environment, and the flexibility of the boom arm ensures your voice comes through clearly every time. Unless you are locked into a specific, older office phone system that does not support VoIP, the EPOS Sennheiser offers the versatility and performance you actually need. I would buy the EPOS Sennheiser because it future-proofs your setup and adapts to any work environment, whereas the Wantek is too specialized for a rapidly changing market.
No, the Wantek Corded Telephone Headset is strictly for specific landline telephone models and does not connect to computers, smartphones, or tablets. You must verify your phone model against the compatibility list before purchasing.
The EPOS Sennheiser SC 60 USB ML is a wired USB headset that draws power directly from your computer's USB port, so it does not rely on internal batteries for basic operation, though the warranty covers battery components if applicable.
The EPOS Sennheiser Consumer Audio offers active noise cancellation, which electronically filters out background sounds, making it significantly better for noisy environments than the Wantek's passive noise cancellation.
Both headsets feature durable construction; the Wantek uses soft leatherette ear cushions for comfort, while the EPOS Sennheiser includes acoustic foam ear pads and is built with solid plastics designed for long-term daily use.
