A Wyoming LLC name search starts in the state's business database at wyobiz.wyo.gov and ends with a name that carries an ending the law accepts, such as LLC. If your Wyoming LLC name search comes back clear, file the Articles of Organization ($100) right away, because no reservation is needed when you file Articles at the same time. Pay the $60 reservation (120 days, paper form by mail) only if you can't file yet.
If you'd rather hand the filing to a service once the name checks out, I'd price CORPBOLT first: see what CORPBOLT charges to form a Wyoming LLC.
(That's an affiliate link, so I may earn a commission if you order through it.)
I read the Wyoming Secretary of State's fee schedule, the WyoBiz filing instructions, the name reservation form and the IRS EIN page in October 2026 before writing these notes. The order below is my own checklist for a Wyoming LLC name search done from outside the US, where every mailed letter adds delay.
Go to wyobiz.wyo.gov and run the Wyoming LLC name search on the core words of your name, without the ending. One search is not enough. These are the variants I run before I trust a result. It's my own habit, not a state rule:
Singular and plural: "Harbor Light" and "Harbor Lights".
With and without spaces: "Bluepine" and "Blue Pine".
Numbers as digits and as words: "4 Rivers" and "Four Rivers".
"and" versus "&".
Short and long forms: "Intl" and "International", "Co" and "Company".
The most distinctive word on its own, so close matches surface.
If a near match shows up, I treat the name as taken. Close matches are the trap: a bank or a customer can mix up two names that differ by one letter. A name change after filing is an amendment, and the fee schedule lists $60 for an LLC amendment.
Under W.S. 17-29-108, the name must include "Limited Liability Company" or one of the listed short forms: LLC, L.L.C., Limited Company, LC, L.C., Ltd. Liability Company, Ltd. Liability Co. or Limited Liability Co. That list is printed on the Secretary of State's Articles of Organization instructions.
Pick one ending and keep it. "Harbor Lights LLC" and "Harbor Lights, L.L.C." feel like the same company to you. On a bank form or an IRS letter they are two different strings. I'd choose plain "LLC": short, easy to type on any keyboard, hard to get wrong.
This one catches people after an otherwise clean Wyoming LLC name search. The WyoBiz online filing instructions say names beginning with the letter "A" must be filed on paper for manual review. So "Apex Trade LLC" can't go through the normal online filing.
From abroad, that changes the plan. A paper filing travels by mail and waits for a person to review it. If the A-name matters to you, keep it and budget for the slower route. If it doesn't, a name that starts with another letter keeps you on the online path.
A clear result shows LLC name availability in Wyoming at the moment you searched. It holds nothing. Anyone can file that name the next day, and the database won't warn you. Treat each Wyoming LLC name search as a snapshot with a short shelf life.
So the last check is a decision: hold the name or file it, on the same day.
After a clean Wyoming LLC name search, you have two paths. Both come from the Secretary of State's own documents.
Reserve the name first
$60 fee, per the LLC name reservation form.
Holds the name for 120 days.
Paper form sent by mail, paid by check or money order.
Processing can take up to 15 business days.
The $60 is separate from the $100 Articles fee you pay later.
File the Articles of Organization now
$100 state fee (fee schedule effective July 1, 2026).
Filing online adds a card processing fee of 2.4% of the filing fee, minimum $1.
No reservation needed. The reservation form itself says so when you submit Articles at the same time.
The math: reserving and then filing costs $60 + $100 = $160 in state fees. Filing online straight away costs $100 plus a $2.40 card fee (2.4% of $100), so $102.40.
My take: if your registered agent, addresses and members are settled, skip the reservation and file. The extra $60 only buys you something when the name must wait, for example while a co-founder signs off. Mailing a check or money order from outside the US is a hurdle of its own.
Once the state accepts the Articles, the exact filed name is the string you copy into everything else, ending and punctuation included.
EIN: the IRS application must use the exact filed name. The EIN itself is free; the IRS EIN page says you never have to pay a fee for one. The online application needs the responsible party's SSN or ITIN and can't be used when the principal place of business is outside the US. International applicants can call 267-941-1099 (not toll-free), 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern, Monday to Friday. File only one Form SS-4.
Bank documents: the name on them should match the Articles letter for letter. Banks compare papers, so give them nothing to reconcile.
Operating agreement and invoices: same string again.
One caveat. A clean Wyoming LLC name search only covers the state's business records. It says nothing about trademarks. This is not legal advice; if the name carries your brand, ask a trademark attorney before you print anything.
CORPBOLT forms Wyoming LLCs from $349, or $599 with your EIN included, and the $100 state filing fee is part of every plan. On CORPBOLT's Launch plan, the EIN goes through standard IRS processing, which takes 6-8 weeks on average; Rush EIN gets it done within 5 business days and is available as an add-on or included on Concierge. Every CORPBOLT plan also covers the registered agent and the yearly Wyoming annual report with the state fee paid.
I'd still run the Wyoming LLC name search and the other checks yourself, because the name is the one choice no service should make for you. Then compare current CORPBOLT plans and prices at corpbolt.com (referral link).
Takeaway: a good Wyoming LLC name search means you search every variant, fix one ending, check the first letter, then file the same day so the name you found is the name you get.
