Ride 5

Ride 5 is for anyone who thinks you don't have to ride a long distance to have an enjoyable day out. We're still fine-tuning the exact format, but the core idea is a ride covering less than 50 miles with a lunch break after 20-25 miles.  The target average speed will be the normal Wheeler speed of 11-12 mph.

To keep the ride to less than 50 miles it may not be possible to use the usual Wednesday Wheeler cafés. Fortunately, the group is skilled at finding excellent cafés that are too near York to be used by the other groups.

Initially, our rides will be planned and organized by me (Eamon) but I may not be available to join the ride. While we welcome volunteers to lead, in the absence of a designated leader, the ride will be 'self-led'. This means someone from the group will step up to navigate the route with the collective support of other riders. A GPX track file and a suggested itinerary will be posted on the Forum.

None of the venues will have been booked, so a courtesy phone call should be made before arrival.

Leading can be a rewarding experience and Ride 5 is a good place to start. The routes will have been planned, they are short and straightforward, and the group will be supportive.

If you have any suggestions for future rides or suitable lunch stops, please let me know. Any ride must be less than 50 miles. I look forward to hearing from you. Currently,  I have 40 destinations so I would like a few more ideas so we do not have to repeat any ride in any year.

Please be aware that the ride may be cancelled at the Square if there is a lack of interest. To stay updated and connected with fellow riders, there is a Wednesday Wheeler WW5 WhatsApp group. Please let the group know if you are joining on route or if you can lead/navigate.

If you think you might lead or navigate for a future ride, please ask the Secretary to register you as a CUK leader. This is just a formality although online training is available.
