My name is William Weimin Yoo (余维民). Welcome to my site! I am an Assistant Professor of Statistics at Heriot-Watt University's campus in Malaysia.
I work in Bayesian nonparametrics both in theory and methodology. I study and develop Bayesian procedures for nonparametric models (estimation and uncertainty quantification). My other research interests include:
Statistical computing, variational methods, distributed systems
Machine learning theory and algorithms, deep learning
Application of other areas of mathematics into statistics, differential geometry, function approximation theory
Astronomy and astrophysics, gravitational waves
I am from Penang, Malaysia.
I like to eat Penang hawker food and durian.
Statistics in this era can be described by 3 words: Big, high and deep (Big data, high-dimensional, deep learning)
