I wish you’d never shown up

Slowly seeping into my life

Till you were an ink stain on all my favorite dresses

I left no stone unturned

Searching for your reason for leaving

Digesting the silence with a swollen stomach

Your arrogance always astounded me

But I guess I wasn’t much better

Always needing to get one more word in

Always needing 

You could never sit down

Searching up and down

The east coast

Picking up fragments of sea glass and a degree no one wants 

You’d never recognize me now, 

I no longer throw my heart into oncoming traffic

But gently place it in the hands

Of indifferent Venus fly traps 

You’re the closest thing I have to heartbreak 

And I hope you never come back 

Speaking unguessed words

In your worldly tone of voice, blaming it all on me
