Monsters

Kianna German

I realized things a younger me would’ve cried out in agony denouncing.

She cries in my lap sometimes-

I’ve had to soothe her on more than one occasion.

Brushing her hair from her face as she weeps mercilessly into my thighs.

She has convinced her young brain of large lies-

All large monsters-

As the adult,

I have to check for her-

Reassure that those monsters aren’t real.

As the adult,

I’ve made my own delusions-

Because-

Realistically-

I fear in those same monsters…

I just can’t show her I do.
