in the pool around seven years old

my dad was teaching me how to float

he said lay on your back, facing the sun

your body will stay on top

so i stretched out my limbs

hands a wingspan apart

eyes on the blue of the sky

i could never do it

i sunk every time

i think my body isn’t cut out for peace
