Netgear made it really simple for all its users by providing a web address instead of the default IP address so that the users do not have to remember the IP address of their routers.

When first bought, the router needs to be setup and logged in for the first time. Here are some steps to setup and login to your routerlogin for the first time:

1. Connect your modem to the WLAN port of the router using an Ethernet cable. Make sure the connections are made properly.

2. Now, connect the desktop computer that you are using to configure the Netgear router for the first time with any of the LAN port of the router using another Ethernet cable. Make sure the connections are made properly.

3. Switch off the computer, the router and the modem and then turn them on so that they can finish booting up.

4. Now, open up a web browser of your choice and type www.routerlogin.net in the address bar of the browser.

5. Another solution is that if you face any problems trying to log in to the www.routerlogin.net web address, you can simply try to log in to your Netgear router using the default IP address which is 192.168.1.1.

6. Once you have typed in the address, you will be prompted to type in the default username and password in the login page. The default username is “admin” and the default password is “password”. In case the default password doesn’t work, that means the user might have changed it to something else. In that case, try logging in with any other pre set passwords. If that still doesn’t work, then the router will need to be reset in order to restore the router to its factory default settings.

7. Once you are logged in, click ADVANCED to check for your Netgear router’s default IP address.

8. Now click Router Update and click Check to check whether any firmware update is pending so as to prevent any login troubles in the future.

9. If any firmware update is found, click Yes to update the firmware.

10. The firmware process will only take a couple of minutes. It is advised not to interrupt the firmware update process as it may corrupt the router or even render it useless.

• Launching browser in the system.

• Write the default IP 192.168.1.1 or www.routerlogin.com or routerlogin.net or www.routerlogin.net in the address bar.

• Click Enter.

• This will navigate you to the Netgear router login webpage.

• Simply, enter the login details if you have put your own else the default details may work i.e. the default password is ‘password’ and username is ‘admin’. (It is all cases sensitive).

• Press on the ‘Login’ key.

• You will be sent to the router’s web-based setup webpage after successful login.

• This setup webpage is mainly a dashboard to manage & control your Netgear routers.

The default address of your Netgear router is 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1. The computer device that you use automatically receives the IP address from your router. If your computer or device is using static IP address then you need to figure out the IP address.

You can follow the below mentioned instructions to find the IP address of your router:

• Open a web browser from a computer or wireless device that is connected to your router’s network.

• Enter http://www.routerlogin.net into your web browser’s address bar.

• It will open up the login authentication screen.

• Now, enter the username and password in the login screen.

• The default username is admin.

• The default password is password.

• The username and password are the case sensitive.

• When you will be successfully logged in, you will be directed to the Dashboard screen.

• Select Advance.

• Your router’s IP address will be displayed under Router Information section.

Parental control feature allows you to set different filtering levels for each of your device connected to your network. For using the parental controls feature, you must have a free Open DNS account. In case you don’t have an Open DNS account, you must launch the genie app on your mobile device and click on Parental Controls to create an Open DNS account.

Steps for enabling parental controls:

• Connect your mobile device to the Wi-Fi network of your Netgear router.

• Note: skip this step in case you are using remote access for your router.

• Launch the Netgear genie app on your mobile device.

• Log into Netgear router by entering the Netgear router login admin password and click on the LOGIN button.

• The Netgear dashboard gets displayed.

• Tap on Parental Controls feature which will display the Parental controls page.

• In case you are not logged in to your Open DNS account, tap on the login button and enter your Open DNS user name and tap on the LOGIN button.

• To enable the Parental Controls feature, move the Enable slider towards the right.

• To disable the Parental Controls feature, move the Enable slider towards the left.
