2021 Orange Hunter Valley Semillon Sauvignon Blanc
Notes
This Semillon Sauvignon Blanc is zesty and dry with crisp acidity and intense grassy and tropical fruit flavours.
Vineyard
Hunter Valley - Our Semillon is grown on well-drained sandy loam soils located in the heart of Hunter Valley wine country. The crop yields are relatively low, producing an excellent concentration of fruit flavour.
Orange - The Orange region is favoured for its high altitude cool climate. Our estate owned vineyard is situated approximately 270 km west of Sydney the topography and soils of the region are dominated by the extinct volcano Mt Canobolas. Soils in the central part of the region are derived from the basaltic lavas of the old volcano, and primarily consist of deep red to brown free draining clay loams.
Vintage
Hunter Valley - 2021 began with an unusually cool weather pattern as a result of 'La Nina' influence. Luckily a break of classic warm days and cool nights in early January led to exceptional flavour development with natural acidity retention resulting in a strong suite of whiles. More moderate weather for the remainder of the growing season has led to reds of elegance and lovely floral lift.
Orange - A complicated vintage in Orange with rain highlighting the end of harvest. The whites are some of the finest we have seen off this vineyard with floral notes and great natural acidity.
Winemaking
The individual parcels were selectively harvested in the cool of the night and then pressed on arrival in to the winery. The clear juices were racked off and inoculated with aromatic yeast strains. Once finished ferment, the resulting wines were matured on lees (or 5 months before being blended together and prepared for bottling.
