Allergic Rhinitis and Asthma

Allergic Rhinitis and Asthma

Allergic rhinitis and asthma are caused by allergens like molds, pollen, and animals.
Immunologic reaction to these allergens starts a cascade of events leading to symptoms such as coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, sneezing, congestion, itchy, watery eyes and runny nose.
Rhinitis and asthma may be present with other conditions such as sinus or ear infections, or sleep-related problems.

The first step to managing allergic airway disorders is to discover the allergies by testing and trying to take environmental control measures, and stay away from these allergens. Treatment options include medications such as antihistamines, anti-leukotrienes, inhalers, nasal sprays, and allergy immunotherapy.
