Biology Olympiad

SCHEDULE FOR 2017-2018:​

February 6-16th: Open exam -

      • A 50 minute, 50 question multiple choice exam covering molecular biology, evolution, ethology, animal physiology, and plant physiology.

March 19-23rd: Semifinal exam -

      • A 2 hour exam given to the top 10% of open exam participants (generally those who score above ~25).
      • The exam is split into 3 parts:
          • A, which has simple multiple choice questions
          • B, which has more advanced multiple choice questions along with T/F questions that may require examining data or graphs
          • C, which contains multiple short answer questions

End of May - Early June: National Finals (study camp) at Marymount University, VA

      • A 12 day study camp where the top 20 semifinalists are given classes in various aspects of biology before being tested to determine the US IBO team
      • The team test is a 6 hour theory exam and a 3 hour practical exam (lab work) spread over two days

July 15-22th IBO at Shiraz, Iran

      • The top 4 campers are sent to represent the USA at IBO
      • A theoretical exam and a practical exam
