I study how nature is shaped—not only by climate and topography, but also by policy, memory, and meaning. As an environmental economist, I often find myself at the boundary between numbers and narratives: evaluating a conservation program here, tracing the ghost of a vanished lake there. My research brings together land use dynamics, rural policy, and the cultural logics embedded in landscapes, mostly in the Chinese context. I also teach interdisciplinary courses on climate change, resource economics, and ecological governance, always seeking to help students connect rigorous thinking with real-world questions. Sometimes, I write to understand the world. Sometimes, I write to remember it.
“To see a landscape is to bring it into being.”
