Lift Up Women Mentorship Program
Lift Up Women Mentorship Program
The purpose of the WSC Lift Up Women Mentorship Program is to support women in local 700 in all classifications and career levels, as they seek to further develop their craft, and advance within their fields. The one-year-long program will facilitate the exchange of information, skill building, and professional growth through tailored one-on-one personal mentoring relationships, and the larger community of mentors and mentees.
Mentorship has renewed significance in the context of remote post teams, which provide fewer opportunities to learn from and collaborate with others. The pandemic isolated us from one another. While many appreciate the better work-life balance of working from home, creative collaboration, education, and community-building have suffered.
The Lift Up Women program uses the application process to pair Local 700 mentees (marginalized genders) one-on-one with mentors (all genders) who are well-established in their field. A sub-committee of WSC members will review applications and pair applicants. Mentorship pairs are asked to give at least one hour per month to meet in whatever way they choose.
Mentorship is not only for those starting in the industry. There is much to learn from others regardless of where one is in their career. It is crucial for women who are underrepresented in our crafts and still disproportionately experience challenges and career setbacks due to responsibilities outside of work, such as starting and raising a family and caretaking for aging parents, or ill loved ones.
Applications for the 2025 program are due by December 22, 2024. Applicants must be active members of the Motion Picture Editors Guild. All genders are encouraged to apply to be mentors. Only MPEG members of marginalized genders may apply to be mentees.
Note: Acceptance notices will be sent in early March 2025. All correspondence regarding the program will be sent from the WSCLiftUpWomen@gmail.com Email. Please add this email to your contacts so you do not miss any program information. Also, feel free to use this email if you have any questions.
