Workshop on Representation Theory of

Affine Lie Algebras

Joint IISc - IIT Tirupati online workshop

December 13 - 18, 2021

Kac-Moody algebras are generalizations of finite-dimensional semisimple Lie algebras. They were discovered independently in the 1970's by Victor Kac and Robert Moody. A highlight of their theory is the generalized Weyl character formula. After the finite-dimensional semisimple Lie algebras, the most important class of Kac-Moody algebras is the affine Lie algebras. These affine Lie algebras and their representation theory have found applications everywhere, from modular forms to conformal field theory in physics.

This workshop introduces the theory of affine Kac-Moody algebras and their representations and also discusses their connections to the theory of modular forms and theta functions. For a more detailed syllabus, please click here.

Prerequisite for the workshop: the structure and representation theory of finite-dimensional complex semisimple Lie algebras.
